what's the word on the Charging LED??

I've got a Visor Edge that's taking FOREVER to ship and I've gotten to the point where I'm trying to pinpoint all the bad points about it so I have a reason to return it(instead returning it out of spite).

To all edge users:

Is it true that the Charging LED only works with the built-in datebk+ alarms? Is there NO other way to make it flash? Any built-in support in other popular programs? Are there any third party programs that make the LED flash with audible alarms(instead of the LED and Beeper being exclusive)?

Thanks.

Hahah.. no.. i was just pretty steamed for having to wait so long for my edge purchase.. but my question is valid.

Can anything other than the builtin datebk use LED for alarms?

thanks.

DateBook+ is the only built in app that had the ability to use the alarm in the first place, but yes, it is the only app that currently has the ability to use the blinking alarm. BugMe! is working on it, and I doubt it will be too long before other apps can as well.

Just out of curiosity, did it take longer than they told you, or are you just pissed because it's longer than you were hoping?

dick:

Thanks for the info... I'm surprised that no one has yet to make use of LED. I'll have to keep my eye open..

and about the wait, I live in canada and it says specifically on the handspring webpage that orders usually had 5 Business days. But to be specific, I've waited 7 business days (so far), and "assuming" i get the edge on july the 3rd(the earliest it can be now, after monday a legal canadian holiday), i would have waited 13 days in total. And i've already sold my previous and only PDA which i had become very attached to.. I was prepared to wait a full week, but this feels like it is dragging on and on... This is a long wait for a pda reliant geek!

Some may say i'm getting a deal, free shipping and all, but to be honest, I couldn't give a damn. I want what a business said they would & could provide and when that doesn't happen, I get mad. It makes the customer feel taken advantage of. Think about how an automechanic says your transmission will take 2 days and comes back to you saying it's another 3 days plus 1000 dollars more... YOU FEEL CHEATED.

The tracking system is even more annoying too. I can't track the order until it reaches canadian borders, which took 9 days in total, from whereever the HS warehouse is, i'll assume near the HQ in san jose, to seattle. That is unexceptable especially when this shipping is classified as "express".

Ah, screwit. I really shouldn't rant. you guys certainly don't need to hear about it.. sorry..

yellow

P.S. man.. i feel stupid ranting about something as silly as shipping. knock on wood my edge isn't a 'broken' edge.. Makes me envy the days of "6 to 8 weeks for delivery". at least my hopes were never torn down in those days!

Well, there is a difference between "usually five days" and just "five days". Is the five days mentioned for United States or Canada?

orders shipped via express shipping to canada "usually arrive in 5 business days. subject to product availability"

That is 'almost' a direct quote from the HS shipping info page. And yes, I checked, the edge was "available" when i ordered.

anyways, I've calmed down.. spent some time with friends and loved ones and got my head screwed on the correct way again.. =)

Who did you order it from? Why is it taking so long? I ordered my Silver visor edge direct from Handspring's website. I ordered it on a Wednesday, it shipped out on Thursday, and I had it on Friday (I selected FedEx overnight delivery). No complaints here.

P.S.
Of course, I live in the USA. But why should Handspring ship differently via FedEx to Canada vs. the US? I understand that it might take longer on FedEx's end, but there's no reason it should take longer for Handspring to process the order.

P.P.S.
I have had things shipped the other way (videos from Videoflicks.com in Canada to me in Massachusetts, USA), and it does take longer.. a day or several days, there seems to be no rhyme or reason. In particular, one package was held up in customs. If you complain to anyone, complain to the Canadian/US Governments for their slow customs processing. I don't think there is anything Handspring or FedEx can do to expedite the shipping of packages across borders. FedEx/USPS Express Letters almost always get there overnight, but Letters are handled differently from Parcels...

Come on. Let it all out. It's gonna be okay. I don't think I can respect you in the morning, as you're Canadian (and I know all about you Canadians), but we have tonight.

Seriously, *****ing isn't necessarily bad. HS checks these boards frequently, and if there is a problem getting the units across the border, they'll either fix it or update their web-site. HS's top brass seem very concerned about their public image.

They should, they're kinda like the AMD of the PDA world, except in a much better position. After their quick response to my issues, they've now just got a new Platinum and a Prism user from my recommendations. And since I'm the only person in my office with a PDA and it's a Visor, the rest now when they're thinking of getting a PDA have "Visor" imprinted first in their minds instead of a Palm

With Sony, Handera, Acer, Sanyo?, IBM and maybe a few more makers making similar PalmOS devices, brand recognition counts a lot.

How many times has somebody asked you this question.

"Is that a Palm?"
