The visor, as it appears to me is a delicate piece of machinery, they are thin and the internal components must also be thinner to save space. Therefore the chances of them failing is greater. The touch screen is obviusly the most delicate. Here is my theory, to get a Handspring shipped in 24 hours, you do it by air right, well the air pressure in planes, while heavy enough to sustain human life is still lower than on the ground, the lower pressure distorts the touch screen (damaging it) and screws with the internal components (expanding and contracting, bursting, etc). whaddya think

That's plausible, but the luggage pressure is most likely the same as the cabin pressure since they gotta stick dogs and stuff in there as well (I'm generalizing but this is my understanding. Correct me if i'm wrong). I don't think the pressure changes in an airplane could possibly warp the screen or damage any of the internals.

I believe in the static electricity theory. When i had the visor edge, I'd experience several times, whenever I inserted teh edge into the cradle, I'd get the popping noise fro my speakers (like when you quickly yank out the audio cable or let it touch a metal object while it was still powered.

I knew this was due to the static electricity because I'd get it more often when plugging it into the cradle in the morning (after the edge spent the night in bed with me (rubbing against sheets), than when I plug it in at the end of the day when I get home from work.

I also blame it for killing my video card (USB port is millimeters above my video card). Though I never had a problem with the edge (fatal errors, digitizer etc), i knew static electricity was there....

I still loved my edge.. such a beautiful device. just awesome..

what I mean is that while cabin pressure is uniform no matter where you are in the plane, it is uniformally lower than on the ground. so, stuff expands more. Also why your ears pop. The static electricity is a good way to look at it too, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if it causes more problems than shipping.

I think what you mean is that the air pressure is lower when you're at say 30,000 feet than when you're on the ground, which is why the airplane cabin is pressurized (sealed), so the air inside matches that on the ground.
The cargo hold may not be pressurized, I don't know. One hopes so if animals are being transported, in which case the air pressure would be the same or similar to that on the ground and negates the theory. (sorry dude.)
I don't know enough about the physics of it to authoritatively say whether or not a change in air pressure is going to cause the molecules of an LCD screen to warp or expand. the sensation of your ears "popping" is just an equalization of pressure of the air inside and outside your head, nothing's actually expanding.
Temperature extremes, on the other hand, definitely cause expansion/contraction. That's why my door never closes right in the winter.

Uhhh... What Visor problems?

It's funny though, every (and I mean every) time I get out of my truck, when I touch the door to close it there is always a violent static discharge. A loud pop and a flash and the whole bit. I'm so used to it that I always gingerly touch the door frame before I actually close it. The discharge is more mild that way. I was afraid this static build up would affect the Edge somehow as it's always in my pocket, but so far it hasn't.

They might truck em to stores, but replacements are sent Airborne Express (which usually means it is not trucked...) Atleast it couldn't of been trucked with how quick I recieved my replacement recently!

I've never, ever had that happen to me with any vehicle. leather seats, cloth seats, plastic covered seats (don't ask), sheepskin covers, etc. I'm not building up that kind of static charge. Either you're a major conductor or there's a wire in your truck somewhere that's touching the metal and shouldn't.
This concerns me a great deal. Please have it looked into, if you haven't already.

Hmmm. Well, it doesn't happen with anyone else that rides in it... it also has berber floor mats, maybe that generates more static somehow. I have a friend who has this Neon and the same thing happens to him, but not to me when I am in the car. It irritates him and he exclaims, "why doesn't this happen to you!?" and I keep telling him that it does, only in my car. But your advice is something to think about.
