HELP please now!!! LaunchEm crashed my VPL
(This was also posted to the Software forum)
I just upgraded Launch Em, paid the $4.95, and now my Platinum is DEAD. I'm sick over this, and I need some immediate help, please.
I followed the directions, by unchecking the appropriate boxes, as directed in the upgrade instructions. Then, when I went to reinstall some of my most usefull hacks, such as ClearHack, LightHack, FindIgnoreHack, etc., the damned thing crashed. I tried again. Crashed again. Tried again, now it's a quivering mess, literally.
The screen is blank, but there is a slightly discernable flickering, so I know it's turned on. If I try to turn it off, I get the option of "delete all data - yes or no" I choose NO. Then it goes back to flickering. I can't turn this sucker off, and the flickering is preventing it from turning itself off. Waaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!
I tried contacting Synergy, and the phone numbers on the web site are useless. I just get Verizon messages that the "number cannot be connected as dialed."
I'm in a panic!!! I have to go on a business trip tomorrow, and I'm screwed right now. I left three email messages with Synergy, but they did not get back to me yet. I tried calling again. Nothing. If anyone can help me, I'm all ears. I'm talking right now. It's almost noon on sunday, and I'm keeping my online connection going in anticipation of an answer, either in this forum or by private email.
TIA
Di

Hi,
Did you try to do a soft reset by pushing the reset button?
Did you try a warm reset by holding the up scroll button up while pushing the reset button? That will sometimes by-pass the offending programs and let you start up. If that works I would get rid of the hacks until you have time to try them back one at a time and see what one causes the problem.
If that doesn't work you may need to do a hard reset(when you get to "delete all data" you need to pick "yes". That will get you back to a fresh running machine. When you hot synch after the reset you will get your calendar and contact information back if you make sure your hot synch is set to synchronize. Not all programs will automatically come back. You will need to manually add things you need, back.
If you are unable to get do a hard reset and "delete all data" then take the batteries out for awhile. It may take several minutes(like 30-60) for the machine to go completely dead. Then you have to proceed as above after a hard reset.
Then when you get a moment go by the back-up module. I make a back-up before I install new software. If it doesn't work I just reset the machine and restore from the module. It is a good business investment.
Hope that helps,
Brian
It sounds like you haven't done a hard-reset yet. Be sure to do that.
That'll probably take care of it.
Lesson learned? Don't try installing Hacks the day before a business trip.

Absolutely!!! Nada

Nada, but thanks for the suggestion.

Well, I resorted to that. Thanks. I have never done that before, and I've had the VPL since they first came out. I was afraid to do this, but after reading your message, I realized I had no choice.

I have one. DOH!!! I hadn't backed up in a couple of weeks, and sure didn't before I installed this new software. Talk about the "School of Hard Knocks". So, now I have to go back and figure what was lost and try to restore that manually. Damned, I used to be so diligent about backing up, then I got lazy. I'm a dope.
Hope that helps,
Brian
Brian, you were a great help!! Thank you so much for your quick response. You showed me another option (even though it didn't work) and made me less fearful of the ominous "hard reset".
