-- help! my visor won't turn on (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2498)
oh my.
yesterday, i tried to turn it on, and nothing. i tried a soft reset. i tried a hard reset. i tried switching the batteries. i tried leaving the batteries out for a long time. nothing.
i didn't even drop it.
why me? oh, why me?
does anyone have any advice at all?
When did you receive your Visor? I got one 2/24/00 and it gave me problems right out of the box.
In a nutshell: it won't respond to the power button when it goes into sleep mode unless I do a soft reset. i.e. I have to paper clip it to turn it on.
Also, my batteries died after just 3.5 days in which I used less than 3 hours.
I had my Visor "go black" on me. If I even set it down the wrong way, the whole screen would go black on me. If I did a soft reset, or a hard reset the same thing happened to me. Then it might go blank and not turn on at all. Removing and replacing batteries did nothing.
What did it for me was I pushed gently on the back case in the middle under the Springboard cover right above the battery door, and tried to reseat the ROM/Memory board module, and it worked. My guess is that the board became unseated just enough that a gentle rap the right way cuased it to unseat itself.
I also will gently push with a stylus in the hole where the HotSync cradle locks in to keep it seated.
Thank heavens for all those diagrams and exploded pictures on the net and for having and Ice VDX so I can see the guts!
i'm glad i'm not alone, ds, your problem sounds similar to mine...
in my tinkering, i would sometimes get some vertical lines, and once, it went black. i spoke with customer service today, and they are sending out a new one. i spoke with them before i read your post, ds, but in the name of scientific method, i jiggered with the back case, and...
nothing.
glad to know though that cs is on top of things, though. very little wait time, very courteous, took me through all the possible troubleshooting steps without being patronizing, and then a replacement machine within 10 days - we'll see about that, i guess.
in answer to supertoke - i got my machine almost exactly 2 months ago.
matty
hey hey hey
i got it friday
and, it's great (thank god for the backup module).
couldn't have been easier to send back the defective unit, and all's well with the new one.
way to go handspring!
