Matchbook Drive Question...

Each time I insert my matchbook drive MD-001 into my visor, it resets...is this a known error that can be fixed?

Is there a way to categorize apps that are already in the card, instead of having to remove them and copy them back in another directory in FAFileMover?

How do you get CSpotRun to recognize the docs that are on the card?

Other than these questions, the MBDrive is great! For the price I got it and the card at, it was a great deal! ($5 for the adapter from ashmed on the board, and CompUSA has a 64mb CF card on sale this week for $19.99)

First off, make sure you're running version 2.1.0 or later of the FlashAdapter software. If you are, then it's probably a conflict with a hack or other OS extension or third-party launcher. Try systematically disabling those things and you'll probably find one that is the source of the conflict. Let me know what you find and I may be able to propose a work-around.

FAFileMover doesn't have any way to move files from one directory to another. However, several third-party file managers (such as McFile) work fine with the FlashAdapter software and do have that capability.

Make sure you have the Kopsis version of CSpotRun and the CSpotRun plug-in (CSpotRunPI.prc) installed. Locate the document on the CF card using FAFileMover then tap on the file name. Select CSpotRun from the menu that pops up and CSR will open with that DOC. Note: docs must be in Aportis DOC format.

Thanks for answering - I will try that today and see what I find

I am running 2.1.1-K. With all Hacks Deactivated, it goes to preferences instead of resetting. I limited the problem to SwitchHack (which I can't live without! )

I downloaded the Kopsis Software Classic bundle yesterday using a e-mail/password provided by the original owner. CSpotRunPI.prc was not included in the Zip file. However, FACSpotRunPI.prc was and this appeared to make the difference. I must of overlooked it when originally installing the programs.

One more question: If I get a card reader for my computer, can I put .pdb and .pdc files directly onto the card, and read them on my visor? It would save the transfer time.

Thanks for your help so far - Nice being able to go to a message board with a question, and get the President of the company to help me out!

Yes! I feel that is the only way to load new file(s) to a CF card.

I guess I am going back to Best Buy then...
What works better? An adapter in the PC-Card Slot (cheaper) or an actual reader that plugs into USB...
does it make big enough difference if I'm just transferring palm files?

If you have a PC Card slot, go with the PCMCIA <-> CF adapter. They're dirt cheap, faster than a USB reader, and supported by a wider variety of operating systems.

The USB reader is a better choice if you envision wanting to use it on a PC without PC Card slots or if you want a reader that can work with a variety of media. Some USB readers support SD, SmartMedia, and/or MemoryStick in addition to CF.

I have both. I have never seen any difference between the two. However, I have not used the PC card a lot, only a few times to make use that it works and only on small files <100k. I use the USB reader a lot and it works just fine. Most of the time I'm getting photos from my dig cam and it is speedy enough for me, 50MB took <2 min. on USB. Laptop isn't here to test it. The most important question to answer is: do you think that you'll be getting/using a desktop PC with your Visor? I would base a decision off that. Good luck!

well, I currently have a desktop, with a laptop connected to it via a home network. The desktop has no PCMIA slot but the laptop does... what I would probably end up doing is plugging the adaptor into the laptop and using the desktop to download the files, save it on the laptop hard drive, and then transfer to the adaptor.

I might not have a laptop when I go to college, but if not, I can hopefully find an open bay on the PC I will get and get one...

No need to copy to the laptop's HD. Just send the files to the CF card reader in the laptop by either mapping the drive on the destop or going to My Network Places>laptops's name>CF card. This will vary slightly between versions of windows.

Then you're already back at the same price of a USB reader! A quick search came up with $30+ for the adaptor. If I was you I would get a USB adaptor since they're only $20 (or less) and you can use it on most machines.
