-- Is there an Application You would like to see developed? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=14293)
Well, Palm Devices have been around for about 5 years now. No doubt, the PalmOS has a huge variety of applications available for it. Are there any applications that you've searched for but just can't find? Any applications that don't exist but you wish you had one for? In this thread, users can help other users find the types of software they are looking for and can't find. Let's keep this thread software only please
We may find an idea for other developers to consider creating for us? Never know, let's give it a try.
So, let the games begin... Whatcha Look'n for? Or, what haven't you found yet? Creativity counts!
I am need a HACK (not a replacment launcher) that seemlessly integrates with the palm launcher, so that when I try to run certain programs, it pops up with a password box, before it will run.
could you do it?

relational OS?
Okay,
not being much of programmer but frequently a user of everything under the sun. One thing I'd really like to see is not necessarily a new applications but a new generation of applications and a new MAJOR OS revision.
I love the Palm OS, grafitti etc, along with basic less-is-more attitude interface and my favorite applications are those such as action names which replace Palm OS standards but still use the standardized database.
What I want is to do seperate the databases from the apps entirely and make a unified database architecture that would serve as the groundwork for all Apps. This architecture would allow linking between ANY pieces of information held on the Palm, whether they be dates, appointments, contacts, photos, avantgo sites, etc.
This would allow products such as action names, shadow plan etc, to quit having to augment the existing standard and just be the standard.
I mean the primary use of handhelds is to store and retrieve data, that is the idea of the connected organizer, it's supposed to a be a terminal to your computer, not your computer.
The end result would look and feel like Palm OS does right now, but it would have a much higher ability to have applications coexist and communicate with each other and share data. Example, I would like handscape to be able to view ANY datebook info, and not just datebook the original palm app.
Anyhow sorry if my explanation is still pretty half baked. The basic guts of it is that I'd liked to see Palm or Sony or Handspring, or more like all of them, to make the OS filesystem function more like a relational database, with several standarized forms and types of data that could be dynamically linked and relinked by applications, which would essentially just be different views, queries, and forms themselves.
This would make life kick ass.

id like to see.....
id like to see a program that would let you select certain apps to be "masked" when the hide tab under security is selected. because i have certain apps that i wouldnt want others to see, so when i let someone play on me visor all i have to do is select hide.
i have never seen an app like this but that doesnt mean there is one out there. please reply if you know of something like what im looking for.

Things I'd like to see!
Well, this will make me sound terrible over-demanding of these little things, but after seeing games like SimCity , ZioGolf and Dreadling pop up for the Palm OS, I can bet there's a programmer out there who can trim it down to work.
The Sims.
If they made this game for Palm OS, I would NEVER use my computer again... well, maybe I would... but you get the point.
------
The rest of these are a little... okay, a lot more realistic.
1) Much improved OS. Could we get it to crash a little less? It's pretty rare already, but it needs to be one-upped. I would also like to be able to have the option of browsing through my file database like a normal OS would, and not have to rely on the Application. This would be handy for such possibilities as internet storage and uploading files, as well as eMail attachments.
2) Macromedia Flash for Palm OS. > programs like TealMovie have already proven Palm's can handle Multimedia.
Well, there you haver it. Please don't reply saying I'm out of my mind, because I really don't expect people to try and make these.
Thank'yaa

Most of the software I'd like to see are games. I wish there were more, deeper strategy games out there. These seem to be the best when it comes to Palm games, as they are largely mouse/stylus driven. Actions games, while fun, are a bit harder to do with the Palm/Visor button layout.
One game in particular that I'd like to see is The Incredible Machine, a fun little game where you built Rube-Goldberg devices to solve little puzzles and whatnot. It had a great little 'free play' mode as well that just let you build from all the funky contraptions available. I think that something similar could be done for the Palm OS.
Getting to be a little more advanced, I think some traditional graphical adventure games could be made. I'm not talking about things like Grim Fandango or the new Monkey Island, but things like the old Maniac Mansion, King's Quest, and the first Monkey Islands could be done. While monochrome versions would be difficult, I think color versions are wholly doable.
And finally, what about that educational classic: Where in the World/USA/Europe/Time/Hell is Carmen Sandiego? It was really just a bunch of text with a few graphical animations.
I'm actually teaching myself Palm programming, and I'm actually going to make one of these my first serious project (after the requisite "Hello World" and other beginner apps, hehe).

I handle waitstaff scheduling in a restaurant. I'd like to find an app that handles multiple schedules along with notes (availibility, vacations, etc.). It'd have day/week/month view, perhaps even 2 or 3 day view as well. able to divide day into shifts, multiple people per shift with some clear way of denoting different positions (waiter, busser, bartender, etc). This, of course, would be independent of my personal schedule.
I've tried a variety of task management programs people have suggested, but I haven't been able to alter any enough to meet my needs.
Know if one already? please let me know! Or, fee free to write it.

Right now the only programs I've been looking for and have been unable to find are games.
I'd like to see Pai Gow Poker, Stratego, Sorry, Risk, and Leverage. I might just have to learn how to program...
Games I'd like to see for the Palm OS:
1. Civilization (the original, not Civ 2)
2. X-Com
3. Populous
In general I want classic PC strategy games ported to Palm. SimCity for the Palm is 1 of my favorite games.

Wizardry, not a clone. The real thing (if they could somehow implement VII onto my visor, I'd be in 7th heaven).

I woul love to see a hack that allows me to set some parameters on the InnoPak 2/V. Like the ability to set a time zone (between 7am and 4pm) for vibration.

I would love a 'back' button.
I would love to use the expansion slot for full SM/CF cards from digicams for pic viewing AND then be able to email pics as attachments with any modem. This would release me from a major vestige of laptop necessity.
I would love to be able to connect to my home/work cable network(wait...) AND be able to use cable speed to web browse on my Vdlx.
I would love a Vdlx w/color- No, I don't think Prism is IT.
Hey, I just thought of a great idea... I could scan my non credit cards -ie auto club, blue cross, and convert them using SplashPhoto, Fireviewer, whatever, and leave most of my wallet home. Gotta go now, try this out. Just wonder how much better they would look in color. DON'T get a IIIc, graffiti stinks and palm pretends it doesn't. You will hhhhaaattteee yourself.
Infrared!
Wish list using the infrared port:
A program that could be programed by Hotel clerks that would open the door to your hotel room rather than using those stupid magnetic cards.
Similar to above but using credit cards and replacing ATM type cards.
The aboves would have to be handled in close quarters but security shouldn't be a problem if the receiver was directional and short focal distance of less than a meter and security could be handled by a fingerprint reader on the Palm screen.
A calendar/scheduling program that easily allows you to have one view of your own calendar and someone(s) else's calendar on the same device while syncing to Outlook. The desktop could easily combine the two - I just want to be able to choose on the Palm. Ideally, this would be Action Names Datebook with a categories capability in the scheduling section. Also, 2 month view. I have suggested this to Iambic.
How about a program that can shrink my huge databases down from about 8mb to get them small enough to fit and still have functinality on the Palm OS. I've tried just about every database program so thanks for any suggestions but I have records of 21,000 sku's and they just are to slow and too cumbersome in Think, Handybase, Docs to Go etc.

This is my wish apps for the sony clie color or any pda that has mp3 capability.
1-I know it plays mp3's so it has a speaker, but can it do this? On my laptop, I have a prog called 'magic spell', very old and unsupported, but what is does is read back to you anything placed on your windows clipboard. This is so handy for reports, letters, and especially speeches. It really lets you hear the 'flow' of words, even though it has an awful old-fashioned electronic voice. This may not be revolutionary, but it's part of my tool bag.
2-I will also buy a Sony digicam IF when I place the memstick(everyone has to have their own kind) in the 'Sony Color', I can view the pics AND email them as attachments. No more laptop for offloading of full memory. Yahooooo!
3-how about a IR receiver with USB plug to put on any pc for printing requests from palm OS. Even, if just the docs2go, wordsmith, & quicksheet formats only.
