A way we can change handspring

I along with all of you were disappointed and upset when handspring decided to end support for the springboard system. if we realy want to change it, why dont we round up as many pepole from this board and other Handspring related boards to buy stock in handspring, and then give one person proxy over the voting writes and elect someone to the board of directors to push for the further devlopment of the visor. call me insane (i know that i am) but it could be done.

Very unlikely. This is from their Nov. 2001 Qrty. Report:
___________________________________________________
OUR OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS EXERT SUBSTANTIAL INFLUENCE OVER US.

Our executive officers, our directors and entities affiliated with them together beneficially own a substantial portion of our outstanding common stock. As a result, these stockholders are able to exercise substantial influence over all matters requiring approval by our stockholders, including the election of directors and approval of significant corporate transactions. This concentration of ownership may also have the effect of delaying or preventing a change in our control that may be viewed as beneficial by other stockholders.

FUTURE SALES OF SHARES BY EXISTING STOCKHOLDERS COULD AFFECT OUR STOCK PRICE.

If our existing stockholders sell substantial amounts of our common stock in the public market, the market price of our common stock could decline. Many of the shares eligible for sale in the public market are held by directors, executive officers and other affiliates and are subject to volume limitations under Rule 144 of the Securities Act of 1933....
____________________________________________________

I used to own stock in Handspring but I sold it after getting an earlier report with some vague statements about "changing direction" regarding the Visor line. This was just before they released the Treo. I expect they will flounder for a while longer and then either go belly-up or make some major changes.

I predict the belly-up outcome. They have barely been able to keep the stock above $1 for quite some time now (I hope you did not buy when it was $90/share). Laying off workforce, even the marketing department, is a sign of despiration in my view.

It depends. Laying off marketing would be a bad thing if they were actually cutting back on their marketing, but from the way the article read, HS was simply adjusting for the fact that their vendors (Sprint, etc) were going to be doing more of the marketing. This might actually be a good thing, in that HS's bottom line might improve.

The real loss is when they start cutting large portions of their R&D. With no new products, the slow spiral into the ground is inevitable.

...and once we have affected the change we seek we can continue the battle of corporate reforms...taking on such publically traded giants as Walmart, General Motors, Martha Stewart...there is no end to the good we can do if we simply band together and act as one! Oh come on now. I think that there are very few of us who can actually remember Country Joe and the Fish. And now the Fish cheer:

Give me an F..............
