-- FATAL EXCEPTION!! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=3151)
Visorites,
I am now on my fourth Visor, and have about had it with the whole company. The problem is that my Visors keep having "Fatal Exceptions" after about a month of use. They then require hard resets to resume use.
Is this a standard problem? Is it a third party software? I hope not, as I have MANY on my visor, and there is not enough time in my life to narrow it down.
Thanks for any help
I HAD to find the time...I have so many apps and about as many hacks and da's...I eventually narrowed it down to a PREF record from Interpilot.
Get "Preference Editor" from PGHQ and try wiping out all the prefs in the Saved or Unsaved prefs that could influence the system on startup. In my case, it was from Interpilot (which does locaolization to Greek or Cyrillic, etc.). I think it conflicted with a hack. I still have it, but I uninstall the Hacks and wipe its prefs each time I'm finished using it.
Oh...BTW. Don't do a HARD reset without doing a warm one first. Do the reset pin and hold the UP arrow key at the same time.
I applaud Handspring for giving you as many units as they have. It sure doesn't sound like a hardware problem. It sounds like you are causing the problem with software. It only takes one odd program to bring the whole thing to a grinding halt. Take the time and get rid of the offending program.
I agree with Staad......if your problem were hardware it would be resolved by now.
I've actually been down the same road as you, HS replaced my first DRAM inflicted GVDX with one that was faulty (it actually had the quality controll sheet with it that said 'fail' on the memory type test). HS was very appolligetic and sent my yet another and a free sweatshirt.
Through all of this I was told that certain hacks and some software written for PalmOS 3.5 that *should* be backward compatible is, in fact, not. It'll get ya a fatal exception every time. Just be selective about what you use......there's tons of apps that all do the same thing so surely you can
still accomplish everything you want on your Visor.
I know HS has been through the mill with this DRAM thing, but I for one have been extremely pleased with the customer service I have received from them.
