Best Module Idea
I've been bugging Motorola for the past year on this idea:
Startac-like flip phone that works independently like your average cdma flip phone, but also plugs into handspring module slot to give you the ability to surf the web and do email.
More than any module - I'm dying for an Extra-Large Handspring. With Palm OS V5 coming out soon, it will be able to handle larger screens with better resolutions - I want a handspring (springboard compatible) that's optimized for ebook reading.
I also like the Handera feature of getting rid of the silkscreen area and replacing it with the LCD screen to maximize viewing area (but that will toggle back for grafitti).
I just had a new idea:
If you've seen the startac rex organizer - then you'll understand how devices can clip onto the startac phone.
I'd like motorola to come out with a clip-on for the startac which will allow it to dock firmly in the handspring module slot and allow me to dial through my phone for web surfing and email.
I currently have a cable to do this via the serial connection on the bottom of my visor - but this is an awkward connection and difficult to do while walking around. Plus, going through the serial connection doesn't let you use a keyboard attachment on the visor - which would be great for emails and stuff.
Hmmm... I think I have a solid idea to be bugging Motorola with! Actually, since the specs for the Springboard and Startac are available - I guess any third party developer could do it.

A MIDI interface. I've seen some attempts to drive MIDI from serial based Palms (dedicated software and a DYI hardware board). But haven't been able to find a MIDI interface using Springboard. So if there isn't one, I'd love one to be created. I hate dragging my desktop PC when I want to use my synthesiser out of my room. Being able to do the same (driving a synthesiser, not dragging
) with my Visor would be delightful. Unless I missed something?

The bummer is that, because it's a medical product, the FDA or the AMA hasn't approved it. That process could take years. :-(

A good Springboard idea.
I have two good ideas for springboard modules.
The first would be a blood-glucose meter for all those diabetic visor users. Though I am not diabetic my mom is one and we thought it would be a perfect module for those people...espeically with diabetes and diabetes awareness on the rise.
And my second is combining the parafone with a visorphone. A phone module that would be able to work both as a wireless landline phone and a cell phone. When home, it would automatically detect the base station and work as your homephone but as soon as you leave it's range it would automatically switch over to the cell network. No more switching modules for those of us who own both or wishing we had the other one for those of us who only own one.
Oops
Guess I should've read the other posts before replying...didn't mean to try and take the credit for other people's ideas...I officially withdraw my idea for a blood-glucose monitor.
Alex.
