Well, I really don't hold any animosity towards Mike over this, so we're not exactly "hitting it off" badly AFAIC.

Yes, but he seems to read a lot of anger in your words. Psychoanalysis into why would be interesting.

Actually, I believe I originally read anger into Toby's words (okay, Pixilator was probably first).

Free psychoanalysis always welcomed

...but I think it has something to do with the sentence by sentence thing. (and, possibly, the sarcasm?) I've since gotten used to the sentence by sentence parsing of replies and don't believe it to be intended hostilely, as I previously thought. But combined with the sarcasm, I still think may come across kinda unnecessarily hostile.

Just my two cents to explain why I interpreted some of the foregoing the way I did...FWIW

That's good. There are many who seem willing to offer it on the internet.

Well, as I've said before, that's evolved out of 1) being more accustomed to Usenet than web boards and 2) trying to be as clear as possible WRT the context of my replies.

Actually, I find that people read far more sarcasm into my replies than is usually there as well. Not that I'm saying that I'm never sarcastic, just that lots of times something that wasn't is read that way (as well as things that were passing totally by).

That's good, because it's rarely hostile. In actuality, it's more an attempt to make things appear conversational. I guess maybe that's a pet peeve of mine. I really never have been able to get used to the monologue type posts that many make. It just seems a bit disconnected to me. Proclamations from on high, so to speak.

Again, I think in many cases sarcasm is read into things where it isn't present. Of course, I'll admit to a healthy dose of irreverance at nearly all times (which is sorta ironic considering I am/was an Eagle scout).

Input is always appreciated.

What, me miss something???

Now that you've explained it, I understand that a bit more. However, very rarely does one person in a face-to-face conversation say one sentance, then the next person respond, and the conversation evolve one sentence at a time. Usually, it's a couple of sentences, then a paragraph, then one sentance, then a grunt or nod, etc. IOW, not every single sentance gets a response.

Then, I'll try to cut you some more slack And, that's my official word..."from on high" (BGDAR)

Well, can't really say since that wasn't referencing you specifically. If you'd like me to start keeping a tally, though...

Sure, and if you notice, I don't always respond sentence by sentence. Sometimes I respond to a few sentences at a time, or even to fragments of a sentence if there are several distinct things I want to respond to. I even occasionally snip things and don't respond to them at all.

Not too much, of course. I'd hate to start getting lazy and think that people always understand what I'm saying the first time with no further clarification. ;>
