PalmGear
just had a whole new facelift, check it out!
Just gonna go and test out their server, see if there are
any improvement on that one (the old one was pretty badly...
There has been previews/testings for the facelift a while
ago, it looks pretty good. =)

Is this just a change in the appearence of the site, or is it a change in the database, server, search engine, etc...?
BEN
I think it's just a change in the appearance of the site. It seems to be running just as slow.

It's running dead slow.
They truly need to ditch this ColdFusion backend that they have. It's going to be a pain but if they could just switch to php or asp, they probably would retain many users by the efficiency of finding what you want fast.
I still won't visit the site.

Ha... two minutes later, this is what I got:
Error Occurred While Processing Request
Error Diagnostic Information
Server busy or unable to fulfill request. The server is unable to fulfill your request due to extremely high traffic or an unexpected internal error. Please attempt your request again (if you are repeatedly unsuccessful you should notify the site administrator). (Location Code: 25)
Please inform the site administrator that this error has occurred (be sure to include the contents of this page in your message to the administrator).
Nothing has changed...

Well so far (knock on wood) it hasn't caused IE on my machine to lock up & freeze, requiring a reboot.. that's at least one good thing..

Though slow, I still find myself going back to PalmGear for the most recent updates, the MyPalmGear page of apps (hope they'll up the limit again, as I'm approaching 50 apps!) and about the most comprehensive listing I've found.
Buy your stuff there and hopefully they'll get enough $$ to upgrade the hardware/whatever. (unsolicited plug
)

Homer, I think you might stand alone saying that ColdFusion isn't the culprit. I could search out other threads mentioning how Coldfusion is a development platform of the past and it is basically scaled for small to medium sized sites. Nothing of the likes of Palmgear... although with all the gripes I see on this board, I have no idea where they get their hits from.
I would wager all my years of web development on the fact that their server and their Coldfusion generated pages are causing this problem. Besides the fact that my backup dial-up (I was a Northpoint victim) sucks and they can't route data for the life of them... it's only two hops from Alter.net to Palmgear.com. It's an internal problem...

ALSO HOMER, how many times have you done a search or clicked on a link and then get this white screen of death saying an error has occured and to contact the Administrator. That's because the don't do load-balancing and because their development platforms sucks. Coldfusion sucks. Name one enterprise level website that uses Coldfusion? Mentioning Allaire is cheating.
