In reply to HeadFra's post:

I work at Staples, (actually the same one a cvela, the one who spilled the beans in the begining) and as far as your shipment being delayed, I don't think you should worry that much, we have had the visors in our warehouses for a week or so now, so there shouldn't be a big delay, but I would check with Handspring to be sure.
Also about employees not knowing about the Handspring product: We have a Staples training network that will teach the associates about new prouducts, and at our next session (Wednesday the 29th) we have a 30 min session with Handspring. So all the sales accociates (at least at Staples, I can't speak for Best Buy or CompUSA) should have a basic understanding for the Visors.
That is all.

Good story on the Visor, plus it mentions that a cell phone module is due by Christmas.

Went to my local Staple's on my lunch hour today hoping to see the Visor... no such luck. When I asked the sales guy, he shrugged and said "Gee, I haven't heard about that...". Oh, well, maybe tomorrow...

Now HandSpring and its SpringBoard developers need to do everything humanly possible to get new SpringBoards to market ASAP.

Unhappy

In reply to Crustie:

Thank you for clearing up how Staples' employees are trained on new products.

Meanwhile, on the shipping question of my now official one-week order and no confirmation, I did check on the order and...was told they are now very backed up on orders and there is no ETD on my Visor. "No idea?" "No. I'm sorry, we're really backed up. There was a big wave of orders last week." So, I guess they are cannabilizing online new sales shipments to stock all 1,500 of those stores. I'm kinda surprised because there are posts on other threads of folks getting replacements, etc. ordered and delivered during last week. I know, I know, I'm whining about one week and others have suffered far more than I.

Oh well, if I see it in one of the three stores before I even get a shipment confirm, I guess I'll swap to a local store and cancel the online order.

In responce to MarkEagle:
I checked on our computer system to see which stores have Visors, not all do, but Staples will transfer items from other stores, so ask the sales rep about that. But if you do want a transfer, do it really soon because all transfers must be completed by April 8th because we are doing invintory.

In responce to HeadFra:

I was for one got a replacement from Handspring last week, and it only took a day to get it, but it came from a different place and in a different box than the original. The replacement Visors come from a different part of the company, they have their own unique stock. That is why they come so quickly.
I would suggest you call Handspring and ask them about your order. If it hasn't shiped yet, cancel it and buy it at Staples.

Cool

I found Visor Deluxes at Staples!
Monday after work I went to CompUSA first...said they had them on order. Then I went to Best Buy...the guy at the counter didn't know anything or was willing to look anything up. So I went by Staples (West Broad St, Richmond, VA), and the store manager said that he had some Graphite deluxes in the back. He said I was his 3rd Visor buyer today..and that's even without them on display yet. The first one I got was a dud..so I went back and exchanged it for another. So far..it works great (my old PalmPilot Pro was dying on me...kept needing resets).

Angry

No Visor's spotted at CompUSA nor Best Buy in KC yet. The guy at Best Buy even told me that they weren't going to carry them. That's about what I expect from Best Buy. I think they favor the "Don't ask, Don't know" policy when it comes to computer info.

No Visor sightings here in Dallas.
I called three Best Buys, (2 by work and one by home) The first hadn't heard of them and wasn't sure when they would get them. The second one felt they wouldn't sell them at all because of the competition for 3Com.

The third store, knew they were coming just didn't know when. CompUSA shows them on order but don't have a date for delivery. As far a Staples? Not one for 50 miles (sigh)

I called around to Staples and CompUSA in Sacramento, CA. Both had no idea what a hamstring was..errr! "HaNDspring...Handspring Visor- Do you have them in stock? I want to buy one." CompUSA had no clue nor could see it on their inventory view. Staples finally found what they are and said they would have them on April 3rd.

Thumbs up

Staples here in Augusta, GA. had as Ice visor (really did look nice) on display. They got them in yesterday, a total 4 whole units and no modules at all but they are expecting more soon. So if you are in town for the Master's then pick one (of the 4) up.

side note: the had the palm IIIc on display with ugly fake screen stick-on so I asked to see a live one. they unpacked one but then it would have taken 4 hrs. to charge it up. No biggie since I was just curious anyway.

Cheers!

A star in the East (or more accurately in Wisconsin!)!!

Staples has them in Wisconsin (at least some stores) and has a complete set of Visors and cradles, no modules though.

The sales guy said the war has started because both Handspring and Palm were paying for end of row displays side-by-side. They were told to expect a rush on them (Visors).

Also, I did get my one week old ordered VDX today at 10 AM and then at 6 PM this evening an email confirming shipment and it had beenn shipped (per the tracking number) at 5 PM yesterday afternoon. I paid for standard shipping, I guess that doesn't apply to how they send it, it's how fast they work on the order in their shipping dept.!

I just picked up one at one of Staples' Hollywood locations as a gift for someone (I got one for myself through HS a while ago and had major shipping/CS problems that I didn't want to relive. Yes, I know everything's supposed to be fine now -- one week shipping, blah, blah -- but I've been scarred for life). The odd thing was that they had the serial cradle for the Visor on the sales floor but not the Visor itself. I asked a salesperson if they got the Visor and she said, rather nonchalantly, "Oh yeah." She had to get it from the back. I picked up a graphite. I don't know what other color they had, if any, but I assume they at least have blue and ice. Besides the serial cradle, I don't know what other accessories or modules they have.

Not only did they have the Deluxe, but they had the Solo as well -- which I understood to be sold only directly through Handspring.

Another surprise was that at the register, the total with tax was $256.54 -- their price was $236.99!

Exclamation

Here's the Visor-retail-availability report from the northern-most Staples in New Hampshire...no Visors in sight! I spoke with the only "red shirt" I could find who said that they had "just received mail" indicating that the Visors would arrive in April. I asked whether he had gotten many inquires and he said no. In the meantime, their display of Palms has expanded - they now have a display up at the counter along with the end-cap!

For anyone looking for a Visor Deluxe Graphite in a Staples store, the Sku# for it is 430655. This will help the sales associate locate one if he or she dosen't know much about them. Also, the Handspring training was today, so most Staples associates should know what a Visor is now.
Other sku#'s

Visor 430654
The colored ones are 430656-430659
I can't remember the module numbers, but the Staples stores should carry or be able to get the Backup module and a few others. I will update later with all the sku#'s and the modules that should be possible to get through Staples.

Cool

I just picked up an Ice Visor Deluxe at the Dundalk Staples in Baltimore MD. (It's a present for my nephew)
SKU #684736100212, $249.98 + $12.49 sales tax.

The sales clerk was startled when I pointed them out, they hadn't been there yesterday. The store only had Graphite and Ice in stock, some springboards, but alas no serial cradles.

The boxes have a nice sticker on them informing customers that if you do not have Win98 or a Mac you have to also purchase a serial cradle.

Of course the sales clerk also tried to sell me some sort of Staples extended warrenty on the thing.

Cool

Of course, while I was at Staples, I took the liberty of picking up their floor models and setting the Calculator app to "advanced mode".
Just doing my part to stub the toes of arrogant Palm people who dismiss the Visor as "just a cheap Palm knock-off".

cool..that's just up the street from work! I'll have to stop by and pick up the back up module. I checked the staples down in Bowie last night and they only had the slimcase from handspring. no visors (or anything else) on display.

JHromadka- I think most (all) of us are very grateful for this web and it's discussion pages. I wanted a Visor, but had a ton of questions since I could not touch n feel the PDA. Most of the answers for those questions were found cruising the FAQs, reviews and discussion topics.

THANKS!

Now an a\r* for the group: Anyone hears of a Visor, sees a Visor on display or finds a Visor owner\wannabe owner etc - send them the url below.
