Exclamation

Well,

I got my Edge a week ago. Had a deluxe forever. Upgraded for rechargable battery mainly - but love the slimness of the edge. Though the stylus could be better.

Anyway, after a week my Edge is now dead. At first I was getting fatal exceptions on power-on and I did soft, system, and hard resets and still get fatal exception in 1 second or less after power on.

Came home and threw it on the cradle - no light indicating charge. It went into sleep mode and pressing power or any key doesn't bring up any screen.

It was good while it lasted and I have a RMA coming. Luckily, I still have my Deluxe which I was just about to clean off and give to my girlfriend but not sure now.

Question OT...Sorry.

When I read the subject line, "Edge Came and dead in a week" I thought it referred to (what seems to me to be) the collective shrug VisorCentral users have given in response to Handspring's latest offering.

Or am I imagining things?

Edge Came and Died

Well, I like the Visor product but my Edge really came and died so I thought the subject was fitting.

I think the main reason VC users gave Edge the "brush off" is due to pent up excitement over the Palm M505. But after reading several sneak peek articles, I'm starting to lose interest in the 505. Apparently the display is extremely dim and not nearly the same quality as the iPAQ. Even more disturbing....the screen still looks very pixelated! I was hoping that a reflective LCD display would alleviate the grid pattern since the pixels are side lit rather than backlit. Apparently that's not the case.

I have been debating whether I should send my Edge back. Right now I have an M505 on order at Palmdirect..but I'm not sure whether I will take the plunge or not.

Another thing that haunts my mind, are the past experiences I had with the iPAQ's dusty screen. I have a sneaking suspicion that dust will creep under the 505's screen just like it did on the iPAQ.

Cool

I hear you. I don't like Compaq so wouldn't even consider a iPAQ. Handspring did overnight me a new visor and I got in 12 hours. Surprised as the rep said 5 days. My first replacement/issue with one and happy with service.

I use the PDA mainly for keeping track of addresses, and logins/passwords (Strip) and color isn't really a big deal. Maybe color will become a deal for me when I get my hands on a 802.11b Springboard module.

I haven't really looked at the m505 yet, but you're right the screens need improvement on all these models.
