-- Mac Palm Desktop 4.0 released (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=27366)
Mac Palm Desktop 4.0 released
Mac OS X finally supported

Not ready for prime time?!
A new Login item Palm Desktop Background is now added to the Preferences => Login list. OS X handles these items OK since 10.1.4 so there shouldn't be a problem. If there is try deleting and starting the Palm Desktop or Hotsync.
The message I got was that "This installer is not compatible with your device. Please contact the manufacturer for a compatible installer." Hah!
Then it told me I may now delete the installer.
It seems like it did the backup but still wants to install that incompatible installer 3.5.3.
What's the difference?
How is this package different from the Palm Desktop 4.0 for MacOS X that Palm released quite some time ago, and which I have been using to sync my Visor Edge under Jaguar with success? Anything other than simply being branded and supported by Handspring?

Looks like a duck...
The only difference between Palm and Handspring desktops for OSX seems to be the "shop for Handspring Products" in the About Palm Desktop dialog and the Help menu. No Handspring USB option in Setup or anything else.

Deleting the OS Updates folder did the trick with the incompatible installer 3.5.3 issue.

I will still end up synching my Prism to Windows with BackupBuddy so that I can get news and scores through AvantGo. I can't give it up for lunch-time reading.
Other than that I will sync every now and then under OSX for my SplashID serial numbers and web logins, and Wordsmith docs. I assume that I will want to sync to iCal when iSync is available. I'm only semi-impressed with iCal so far. That leaves Palm Desktop out of it.
Slow on Os 9
I may be late to the party - I just started using 4.0 on Mac OS 9 - I never used the Palm version (i'm not the 'chancy' type), but my wife has OS X so I'll be trying this with her Titanium.
However, 4.0 is noticeably slower in OS 9 than 2.6.3 - delays in switching screens, screen redraws, etc. Is this the case with the Palm Version 4 in Os 9 as well?
What new features in 4.0??
Hey,
Just want to know what new features there are in 4.0...
