What do I hate? Well I'll tell ya...
I gotta say this drives me crazy. When people see my Visor laying on my desk or otherwise they think nothing of picking it up and fiddling through it or playing with it freely going in and out of apps as they please. The kicker is that these same people wouldn't even dream of picking up one of their other peer's paper daytimers and merrily flipping thru the pages to read it's content.
I'm no troll. I know they mean no harm but these folks treat my daytimer and private records as a freakin' GameBoy. Gouging and poking at it with any sharp object they can get their hands on.
I just thought I'd share that with you. I have to treat my Visor like it's a cookie jar and the people around me are children. What makes it worse is when you tell them to leave it alone please they act like 'What is this guy's problem?!? He doesn't want ppl to play with his GameBoy?!?!'. Very very frustrating because I always have to hide it.
Does anyone know of a good security app that will make particular apps of my choice disappear when I please? I wouldn't mind people on my Visor so much (assuming I supervise) if there were no sensitive info on there. Some apps allow private records, some do not. I'd like something that would make entire apps hidden or require a password to run.
Thanks
Ark.
I ABSOLUTELY HATE THAT!
Other kids in my class take it, look in my datebook, and start asking, "Who's so-and-so?" What do they think, I'm having an affair? But that's only sometimes. Usually they're taking it off my desk to play games. "Bernie, let me just finish this game!" I'd like to sock them in the face, but they're bigger than me
! I learned to just stop leaving it around. I put in my pocket, in my hand's, or lock it (but even when I lock it, they'll take it away and try to figure out the code
). Keeping my eye's on it is no good, they'll just take it away in front of my eye's.
Locking it is useful, but not very convenient, especially if you're not fast at graffiti. I finally found Padlock Hack . It lets you use the buttons as a password. Not bad. Go to http://ourworld.compuserve.com/home...adlockhack.html
Just remember: they want to see it because they don't have one and you do. That makes you superior. Hahahaha!

Yeah...lol... I love that "Who is this? Who is that?" when they are scrolling through my Address Book. Even though I'd like to strangle these people, it makes me laugh and feel better when I read it from another person's perspective as well. Nice to know I'm not alone.
Another problem with locking it is that yes they will try forever to crack the code right in front of me but also it apparently is rude. When I do it they act as though I'm stepping out of line or overreacting or something. Someone always says "Just let him/her use it. Quit bein' such a dick!". Extremely annoying and a situation that really is not solvable. The majority of people I know see my Visor as a toy probably because their kid has a GameBoy. Being around technicaly illiterate people constantly is getting frustrating for a number of reasons. Can't we just live in peace? ;P
I feel your pain... Maybe we should start a support group?
Cheers,
Arker.
Kidspilot
if you go to IS Complete.com and go to Kagi, there product seller, and buy kidspilot for $15 or $20 it could be uusefull. if you try a search on their main page it will say 'this product has been replaced by restrictor'. if you try to search for the demo of it on palmgear they will say 'this product has been removed by the developer'
kidspilot is a seperate launcher that lets you choose what applications you want to be shown in it when the launcher is selected. once accessed, you cant exit without the system pass word so you can let them fiddle with your pda knowing their is no way for them to access unwanted information.
email me for more information at [email protected]
i got this program after many people kept asking me if they could play games on it. so i bought it and now they cant access or delete any information i dont want them to know about. (not through hard buttons silk screen buttons or from inside a game) now i can let them play anything i selected for them to play.

You better not get a Stowaway.

Try to use the MouseTrap hack. It basically allows you to lock someone out in a certain application(some game for example). So that they will be able to play but won't be able to access the rest of your device.

I have a stowaway
. I can't stand that reaction from the other people! I've just stopped caring. Which DOES NOT make me very popular.

Ernieba...what kind of reactions are you getting to your Stowaway?

P.S. I feel at home with geeks like you.
Launcher III is nice, but the hard buttons still work.

You can also go into Prefs and assign the upstroke to be "Turn off & Lock". Then when someone picks up your Visor there is nothing for them to do.

You know what I hate the most? Is when people ask "How much did this cost?" and usually this is from people who are either really cheap, or don't have their priorities straight with money, and they're like "Woah! You must be rich!"![]()

I've found that all the locking programs become too cumbersome for daily use, especially ifyou're turning on and off your visor a lot.
EasyLock
EasyLock is more of a convience lock than a unbreakable lock. Basically requires one or two hardbuttons that need to be pressed after the power button to 'unlock' the visor. if mr/ms. nosey doesn't go through your "secret" sequence, then the visor locks. Really great, easy to manage and not a pain (not long passwords to write out everytime).
yellow
I like EasyLock as well. I hope that if it gets lost and my message screen comes up (when they finder doesn't know which buttons to press and/or that other buttons need to be pressed), the finder will be lured into calling me because "REWARD OFFERED"
Now we need someone to make a thumb print scanner module.

The BVisorUserFH method: The next time someone does that, you grab your visor back and slap them on the wrist while saying 'Bah. Do not meddle in the affairs of Visor users for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!*' Not only should that keep them from playing with your visor again, they'll probably avoid you totally. As an added bonus, they may fear that you're insane and might kill them at any moment which can have all sorts of other perks.
But seriously...I wouldn't leave my visor there. Mine stays in my front pants pocket at all times. If anyone grabs for it there, a slap on the wrist would be a kind way of dealing with it (only the wife's allowed to do that).
* or there is the alternate more faithful rendition: 'Do not meddle in the affairs of Visor users for they are subtle and quick to anger'
