Unhappy

Have you tried it yet this morning? Slow doesn't begin to describe it (granted, I'm only on ISDN, but I'd dread dial up connection). It doesn't matter what are you visit. Orders; cases; product description; they're all snail pace. Good luck Handspring.

I'd say the site is getting hammered pretty hard and you'll probably see some improvement in the next few hours as they make adjustments. I truly believe this was the plan all along and don't have any hard feelings towards Handspring. Today, they are doing a major launch of the Visor at Internet World 99 and this morning their website gets some noticeable changes. I ordered a Visor Deluxe on 9/14 (only 3 weeks ago) and I'm sure I'll get it as soon as possible and its Handsprings top priority to get everyone what they ordered.

One thing for everyone here to remember is that Handspring has not promised one single thing that they haven't delivered on yet. They took "reserve" orders and said we would hear from them soon. No one has been charged for anything yet. Granted there has been some slight miscommunication in talking with some of the people taking the orders but that was bound to happen. I didn't expect Jeff and Donna to take all the orders themselves and I for one (IS Admin) know for a fact that no matter how many times you tell a group of people something that the facts eventually get twisted.

I'm just as anxious to get my Visor as anyone else here but we just need to be patient

I imagine it is getting hammered. My concern was that all areas of the site are slow or return connection errors. Probably all the same problem. Perhaps it is good news in the sense that it shows extreme interest in the Visor.

Yep, I think I found a bug in the "custom" case ordering process. I've managed to get to the part where I pick the material but no choices are displayed. I read somewhere that Handspring has contracted someone to do their site which would be expected for something like this. Hopefully things will improve quickly or they'll be fired and someone will come in and save the day. I would hope they were aware that they would get quite a bit of traffic today.

I signed on the the new site at 7:30am eastern time. Did not have any problems. Ordered the Premium Stylus 5-pack and a custom case. Didn't have any problems. Received my confirming email about 10 minutes after I placed the order. But I'm sure that by this time the site is getting hammered...

Talking

I ordered a case for my visor and got confirmation almost immediately with a nice little message that states all orders will be processed in the order received.

The site is slow because of the traffic and the show in New York. It'll get better quickly when all of us stay off the site.

I have no idea what any of you are talking about. I just visited the Handspring website and its the same. Nothing has changed. Are you talking about a different URL?

Try re-entering www.handspring.com. That's how I got to the new website. Or try this url: http://www.handspring.com/cgi-bin/Handspring.storefront

It was pretty slow when I tried it this AM (between 8 and 8:30 Pacific time) but it seems fine now. I'm forcibly restraining myself from ordering a case and other goodies...it's bad enough that I'm probably about to buy one of the new Special Edition iMacs...got to start economizing somewhere

Awright, now the site seems to have reverted to the old "We will soon be taking orders" layout! What gives?? 4:20 PM, Pacific time

I just checked and it's working fine for me. 7:32 EST (Maybe your having DNS problems? Try using 216.35.16.7 instead of www.handspring.com and see if that works.)

Site is fine I will be ordering some accessories. Also was told at Internetworld that confirmations of orders will probably be on-site next week

Although there's no mistaking the fact that the site was slow this morning, at around 11:00AM Eastern I ordered a case for my visor - I got the email confirmation before I finished placing the order, as the site was VERY slow. Still - this shows that it functions just fine, given time.

Red face

I haven't been able to get into www.handspring.com all afternoon, but I did notice that there is a new Slashdot article which mentions Handspring. Maybe another instance of Slashdot Effect?

I just managed to get the main page loaded. However, the links are all non-responsive.

Neotrace tells me that www.visorcentral.com is dropping 95 to 100% of the ping packets sent its way.

Even under heavy traffic, the machine should be a bit more responsive. Guess they're having some difficulty.

Though we may have progress. As of now, it is only dropping 50% of packets.

Good luck, guys. Success's a pain in the butt, eh?

Don't know what caused the problem I had with the Handspring site yesterday. Cleared cache numerous times, etc. Checked it again just before I left work at 6:30 pm PT and it was back to "order-taking" mode again.

Site seems overloaded again this aft - can't get on at all at the moment.

It's not just the slashdot effect, there is a VERY positive article on Wired today - and it's the featured story. That must be driving the traffic. Check it out.
