Of the following choices, which MOST represents how you feel?

a) HS should have waited until they were ready to ship before taking orders.
b) HS should have set up a more organized telephone order taking system/database.
c) HS should have had their website/online store better prepared to take orders.
d) Hawkins should not have made comments about shipping dates prematurely.
e) I wouldnt care about the rest if HS had only communicated better.
f) None of it really bothers me, as long as I get mine by Christmas.

A-D.

I would have still been disappointed even if they E'd after D'ing, although E'ing would be better than nothing.

E

Communication would have solved all of the other issues. The loss of not receiving indvidualized emails has caused us all who are waiting to doubt the abilities of Handspring. It will also cause them to revamp future product releases to the benefit of their clients but that does little for us at the moment.

Talking

There's no question, A-E are all issues, but communication overcomes all kinds of problems and avoids the problems that arise from rumors and misunderstandings.

Start talking more Handspring, because like the old advertisment went for EF Hutton, "when Handspring speaks, people listen."

E!

I was told that an email would be sent out in under two weeks after I placed my order, and that my visor would ship in under a week after I received that email. Well now we find out, only by way of a tiny change to their website, that no emails will be sent out to those of us who ordered early, over the phone. How hard would it have been to set up a simple email list to let everyone know about any and all updates? Is that too much to ask? If it wasn't for this board, we would completely in the dark about everything! Very unprofessional, and disorganized!!! A little personal communication goes a long way.

Until we go beyond the end of the month, HS has broken no promise it made to me. I ordered on 9/14. They said 4 to 6 weeks.

As for most of the banter about email responses to orders, conflicting CSR statements about very finite details, blah, blah, blah... We must remind ourselves that we "pre-ordered" Visors. That means we were, and to some extent continue to be the company's and the CSR's on-the-job training.

I've found this whole topic to be completely tiresome. I can't wait for the hands-on evaluation to begin.

If I were Handspring, though, I'd be mighty miffed at the folks handling their ecommerce site. So, to answer your question precisely, I suppose it would be:

c) HS should have had their website/online store better prepared to take orders.

Communications should be the first job of ANY startup!

D & E, but I wonder how many "F" responses you would have gotten had you made it Holloween (as promised).

Cool

I'll go with "F" if I can modify it to SUPERvisors closer deadline of Halloween.

E. Their communication has been awful. Why can't they just post updated info on their home page?

Posted by vflopez on 10-15-1999 10:31 PM:

Cool

F

Give them a break. They've designed a revolutionary product. It's more important for them to know how to design and build a good, reliable device than how to manage an order tracking system. They'll learn.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to go with F as well. When Nov 1st rolls around and I still don't have one then I will revise my opinion.

I would have to say B & D especially B, they should have been more organized with the ordering. Not so bad with D if it is true that they are shipping now!
