Platinum won't turn on

I recently turned my platinum on after not using it for a while, however it didn't respond. I replaced the batteries (although the old ones should still have had a bit of power left in), and it still didn't work.
I then did a soft reset and tried the power again. This time the Palm logo flashed on briefly then a message came up on the screen saying:

Erase all data?
YES - "up" button
NO - any other button

When I press any other button, this just switches back off again.
This happens every time I try to turn the thing on.
Also, it doesn't respond when I try to Hotsync it.

Can anyone help?

That's what happens when the device is hard reset (or when the batteries fail). It sounds like you're going to need to answer 'Yes" and then restore everything from the desktop... basically start fresh.
