-- VisorDX => Backup Module => Prism OK? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=8898)
Having a full year's worth of experience with my VDX has me a little scared of using my backup module as a the source for my Prism files.
Are there any gotchas with "restoring" files from a VDX onto a Prism?
Do Saved Prefs get in the way?
Are application registrations blown away?
I used this method to port over to my new Prism. Everything worked without a hitch
Even my dialup prefs were still there.

I have used the backup module twice to transfer data from one Visor to another, once when I cracked the screen on my VDX and used the backup module to transfer the data from the old one with the cracked screen to a new VDX, and again last week when I transferred all of my data from the VDX to a new Platinum. In both cases it went without a hitch. I have found it much easier to transfer my data using the backup module than the using the PC.
Let me make sure I understand. When I backup my VDX with the Backup Module, is the OS being backed up along with the data or just the data? If the OS is, how will that affect the Prism (when I get it) if I use it the Backup Module to restore since the Prism has the new OS?
TIA,
David
VisorDX => Backup Module => Prism OK?
Did you guys apply the 8MB patch exe to your visor deluxe? I don't believe the backup module copy OS data, but since the patch is actually a program, it might get transferred to the Prism then cause problems with OS 3.5.
Can anybody verify this?
TIA!
Jerry
i have not had any problem using my backup module to reinstall all of my files on the prism
Thanks for the feedback. I guess my main reason for asking was because of the minor loop I got into with the backup module installing a defective chip patch over a patch installed on a unit without the defective chip.
So if my VDx doesn't have the defective chip patch (it doesn't) I should be alright?
My Prism shipped yesterday. Come on UPS!!!

Can anyone tell me whether the backup module works faster with the Prism and Platinum than it did with the VDX? I do a complete backup every day or two, and it takes about 5 minutes each time. I'm hoping that the new processor will cut down that time dramatically.
I personally have not noticed a quicker backup time.
My Platinum doesn't seem to back up any faster than my VDX. As for whether the backup module backs up the OS as well as the data, I don't know for sure. But I used my backup module to transfer all of my data from my VDX with the old OS and then restore it to my Platinum, which uses the new OS, and haven't had any problems.
