Angry Hotsynch crashes at Memo Pad

When I try to sync my handheld, the program goes belly-up when it tries to sync Memo Pad. This was true even out of the box. I'm syncing my Visor Edge with the USB cradle, using Win 98. I've jiggled the connections, did a hard reset of my Visor Edge, and a complete uninstall/reinstall of Palm Desktop 4.0.1. Any idea what the problem is?

Here's a typical log message:

Are you using any programs that let you have memos larger than 4k? I ran into sync and find problems a while back with a memo that went over the 4k memopad limit.

BTW, AFAIK the handpsring update isn't required on the Edge because it's already at 3.5.2H2

Thanks for responding. I'll have to keep the 4k barrier in mind. In this case, though, none of the memo pad records were over 4k. They were just the messages that come loaded on the machine. I even deleted them from the handheld. But still no workie.

Hotsyc 6410

Make sure that cradle is plug into USB port on your computer. Not on USB hub. If you have serial cradle try lower speed i think 9600 is best in 6410. You may need to perform a hard reset on your visor. If you have any hack remove it

I'm going straight into the USB port on my Toshiba Satelite 1555 CDS.

Please check USB controllers. If you have NEC or VIA tech down load there patch for USB. Some time 6410 appears because of hardware issue on your handheld. if possible contact handspring also

I do have NEC controller. Where would I find the patch?

Arrow Uninstall and Re-install

I think uninstalling (using Add/Remove in Control Panel) and then re-installing the software should resolve the probem. Your data will not be affected on the desktop.

Check Toshiba's wb site for an update

Well, it looks like the NEC USB controller is the problem. My Edge synched without a hitch on another machine. Unfortunately, neither Toshiba site nor Microsoft have adequate drivers/updates/patches for Windows 98. But rather than going to the serial hotsync cradle, I've popped for a Belkin USB Busport Mobile PCMCIA Card Bus. It's a bit more expensive than the serial cradle, but I really want the speed.

I'll let you know how it works.
