Hmmm - let me seee . . . .
If you combine a low end, B&W, $149 palm organizer with a nice, $250 phone (nice, but not great!) , you get a $600 Treo. It must have some awesome software, because the hardware just ain't justified by that price.

Nope. No need at all. It was just timely (and there are marked similarities betwixt Apple and Handspring). No need to be so sensitive to good natured ribbing of a company just because you work for them (directly or otherwise). I'm sure that Handspring had about as much choice as Apple did.
Considering all the VCers posting about their dreadful experiences with this device (how many people are on their third treo? and it's been out, what, a month?), the price should be dropping.
I'm thanking my lucky stars that I didn't buy one. The price increase just made me laugh.

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?
quote:US$150-250 is about right for a decent cellphone with SMS/wireless data/etc. in the States. The providers just don't often pass that cost onto the end users. Personally, I think that the Treo currently demands a 'cool' premium. Were it priced based on features, it would probably cost US$200-250 for the PDA part and US$30-80 for the phone part with a contract. IOW, The proper pricepoint, IMO, would be US$230-330. I think US$300 would be the 'right' price with contract (US$450-500 without) to really make these puppies fly out the door.
