-- InnoPocket is beautiful - but there is a problem (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12677)

Posted by Mannykay on 03-07-2001 10:27 PM:

I got my InnoPocket CF Adapter today, but wasn't able to use it yet. I tried a CF card that came with a Kodak digital camera but CFCardInfo could not recognize it. The error message said something about "invalid drive info", as well as an "invalid Master boot record" (didn't know CF cards even had one). I also was not able to format the card. Anyone else had this problem? I am beginning to worry that my adapter might be bad.

Mine is working fine!
if you can, try it with other cf card.

I've tried three different cards, but I'm always getting the same result. Another user told me of similar problems. I hope to get a functioning one soon...

Mannykay,

I have 2 different Lexar cards, an 8meg 4x and an 80meg 8x. Neither worked with the InnoPocket. I also have a Sandisk 80meg that works fine. I have seen a compatibility list on Kopsis' website where cards that work and don't work are listed. The site is:

http://www.kopsisengineering.com/fafilemover.html

Look under 'System Requirements' on the site.

Are your Lexar's USB enabled? I have always wondered about the compatibility of those.

Mannykay, is your CF a Kingston? (Kodak and Kingston seem to have something going with each other, and I had not heard of compatibility problems of Kingstons with most equiopment.)

There is a new version of FAFileMover(ver 1.1.4)
Try download it
and for kgilbertsen try to download it again and try it with your visor.
It's working in my Prism.

Eug, They are both USB enabled. I read somewhere that the compatibility may be due to their lack of compliance with some cf standard or something. Well, they work fine with the Coolpix digital camera.

Akur, Thanks for the update on the software, I'll try it.

Angry FAFILEMOVER and Lexar

I have a Coolpix digital camera that came with a 16mb Lexar compact flash. . . not enough memory for the camera, really, but great for the Visor. So I bought the matchbook, downloaded the Fafilemover, and just get locked up. I assume that it's got to do with the USB compatibility of the Lexar card. In fact, I thought that the Kopsis site specifically mentioned a problem with USB compatible cards, but I can't find that now.

At any rate, the matchbook card is now sitting in a drawer with my Cross Pen pad, and a variety of other things that sounded like a good idea at the time.

DeLiberty,
At least your Coolpix came w/16mb, mine had only 8! There's a compatibility list for the CF cards, and I don't recall seeing ANY Lexars that worked. I don't know if it's because of the USB ready issue or not. I did look on EBay and saw a new Sandisk 64mb advertised for $79, that's pretty cheap.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all the advice. I had not dealt with Compact Flash this far, and, I guess, just this once I hoped everything would be easy. It was, of course, terribly naive of me to assume that there would be no compatibility issues and other quirks involved here. A CF card is a CF card is NOT a CF card!
The Kopsis website specifically mentions the 16 meg Kodak card that I first used as incompatible. I can't find the second brand, Hama, (bought in Germany--but it's not a manufacturer, only a distributor) on the list. I used a 32 meg card of theirs with no luck, and it turns out the card also doesn't work with a Kodak DC 4800 digital camera. The third card I used was a 64 meg card whose manufacturer I don't remember.
What I will do is try a Sandisk card next week and hope that's the end of this story...
