In an attempt to "multitask", I backed up my VDx in the bathroom while preparing for bed. I carelessly knocked it into the commode! The only saving grace is that the Backup Module had been removed.

What are my options and please be kind.

1. Will a drowned Visor come back to life after it dries out?

2. If not, is my only recourse to buy a new one?

3. Since I backed-up only seconds before the baptism, will I be able to restore all of my programs and information?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Although it's your own fault (not to rub it in or anything), if you're within the warranty period, you'd have nothing to lose by calling Handspring and just being straight with them -- maybe you'll get lucky and they'll be so interested in making up for their past customer service flaws that they'll replace it gratis or send you a refurbished unit at significantly less than list (did I see $85 somewhere on another board?).

If you want to ask for any kind of unusual accommodation, your best bet is to bypass the customer service reps and send an e-mail directly to the CEO, Donna Dubinsky -- she's very responsive.

Just a thought-- if Handspring does agree to replace the unit, then how can we make sure Hunkmeister's tarnished unit doesn't get refurb'ed and passed back to the general stock supply?

Maybe it'll get sent to bozack, who's got a tiff on refurbs over at here.

meister, if you haven't done it already, take the batteries out!

You might want to take your visor apart (watch out for the ribbon cable) and use a hair drier on low heat to dry out the insides. I think there's a good chance that fully drying it out is all you need.

As for the backup module, whether you get yours working or get a new one, the backup module will put everything back the way it was.

Its not impossible that the visor may have survived.

I dropped my old organiser in a swimming pool and three days later with the batteries still in it worked and hadn't even lost data.

Many People also drop the Psions in water and if you took the batteries out and opened all openable sections and left in a warm area for a couple of days they resumed normal funstionality.

It all depends on how long it was in the water really if you stood there looking at it going "noooooo" then its probably soaked through, wereas if you pulled out seconds after falling in... it may just still be alive

My GVDx survived its toilet trip! I followed PDAENVY's advice and took my Visor apart. Using a hair dryer on and off for about an hour did the trick. Then I inserted the Backup Module and was set to go.

Thanks to those who replied, especially PDAENVY for his instructions and JK for his encouragement. Kudos also to Handspring for such a hardy machine and the Backup Module.
