Smile Buying a visor deluxe/should I wait?

Hello Everybody,

I am planning on buying a Visor deluxe from the Handspring website with the free matching case offer and free shipping. Being new to the handheld world, I just wanted to get a few opinions.

Since there are alot of people who are talking about Handspring announcing brand new PDA's do you think I should wait a little while longer to see what they plan. I really need a PDA organizer soon and thought a deluxe unit would be great especially since the price is so good at only $169.

I realize the decision is mine but I still appreciate other opinions. If Handspring is really going to release all new units this fall then I guess I should wait to see what they are going to do but as I mentioned the great price and free case are pretty hard to pass up. Thanks for your input!!!

Since you are new and considering the fact that the new models will probably be more expensive than the VDx get a VDx. It'll be a good introductory to the PDA world and I am very satisfied with my VDx. Plus you'll have money left over for a Stowaway or a springboard or two.

I say dont wait. Butt dont buy hte VDX go for the VPL its few bucks more butt worht the extra 50 bucks. its faster and ithe ifra-red port is better. cause if ya have the nokia 8290 cell phone it connects with ifra red ya dont need cables. cool huh. The VDX can do it do butt ya need extra software. I have the VDX i love it and would buy anything but Handspring. Butt i wish i would have bought the platinum. or if i was rich the prism. but i say buy now will the prices ore low cause the new ones will be pricey good luck.

well if you have the money, but just really really want a pda then you should get it. then a few months later if you feel your ready you can upgrade. but if money is a problem and if you bought one and wouldnt get another one in a year or two id wait and spend the extra $$ for the newer one. because the delux uses os 3.1 the grayscale isnt great and the prossesor is slow and their are many games that require os 3.5 or higher(fish tank terror), plus with 3.5 and if you own win 2000 you can sync via ir with your computer. right now i own a visor 2mb with 16mb modual, but i think with my birthday and christmas coming i should be able to save enough money for one of the newer devices(color is a must for me now).

dont you mean "and wouldn't buy anything but handspring"?

same with me. i will never by anything but handspring, unless they go out of business(probaly the same day as the acopolis or armageddon)

Thanks guys!!!

I really appreciate everyone's responses so far. I know I am the one that will be making the purchase, but I still appreciate what you all have to say. I just visited the Handspring website and the Green Visor Deluxe with the matching Green case sure seems like a sweet deal especially with the free shipping.

I specifically wanted to ask everyone here because given the huge recent price breaks, I just assumed that new models were on the way. Asking a sales person at Handspring if a new Visor is coming is like pulling teeth. I was told nothing so I guess if I buy a Deluxe I take a chance that very soon they will release a much better unit. I am also looking at the platinum as well. Either the Deluxe or the Platinum will definitely be the PDA that will be perfect for what I need to use it for. Once again I appreciate the help and opinions.

Talk to you all soon(hopefully w/a new Visor in hand),

Just a suggestion... you might want to check out prices at Good Guys, or Best Buy. They have a thirty day, money back policy, so if they charge the same or only a few dollars more, buy it there. Then, if Handspring DOES come out with a newer model in the next month, which is within your budget, and has features you just gotta have, you can always return your Platinum (or whatever) to GoodGuys/Best Buy, and exchange it for the newer model. It at least gives you a month to see if new models do appear, and what they offer.

Just my suggestion. Good luck! You won't be unhappy with whatever you get, but you'll want whatever newer comes out, whenever it DOES appear.

Thanks

Thanks Shel for the info. That's a good idea regarding the purchase with the 30 day money back policy. I just might do that. Of course if I don't pick up a Visor directly from Handspring I miss out on the free case but at least I have the option of returning it for a new model if I go the other route with the Good Guys.

Anybody ever wonder why not many stores have policies like that?

Arker.

Handspring also offer a 30-Day Buyer's Remorse policy. If you are unsatisfied with your purchase within the 30 days after purchase directly from Handspring, well, you can call their Customer Care dept to setup a return and credit. Plus, by purchasing through Handspring you'll recieve the free case and shipping. I would highly recommend anyone interested in purchasing Handspring products go directly through their website. They have great customer service and are very timely in addressing any problems you may encounter.
