-- Handspring Visor Cases, ARE THEY SAFE?? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=3782)
Hello all,
I am looking to purchase good looking case for my visor, and I like the look of the Handspring cases, but I have one question, are they safe
. I have seen numerous postings about how the clip breaks parts of the plastic off the visor. If anyone needs the information, I have a VDx and have not had oproblems with cracking yet, but I don't want to in the future either. If the case is fine, please post so, thanks.

I have a distressed leather case. The look is good but it only have one pocket, I do regret buying it for $40. I do feel a bit uncertain when I put the visor in. The clip is very thick plastic so I'm not afraid of that breaking. I'm afraid that a piece of the space holder might break, but I use my hands to lift the clip to put it in. So far I have no problems doing it, and the visor is really secure in the case. Hope that helps.

I bought a case (bright analine) from HS and used it with the first BVD I owned. The thin tab above the springboard slot broke completely off (even though I was very careful). After I got a replacement, I put the new one in the case and within 3 hours, a stress fracture had begun to develop in the thin slot! I promptly took the new unit out and have not put it in the case again.
I would be very leery of using these cases. I have an E&B Slipper now and love it.
I am having problems with short battery life on my Visor Deluxe. I am getting less than a week's usage. I hot sync about every 2-3 days (more with increased data input) and I've gotten over the "gotta play with it every second" stage!!!!
I did purchase a visor premier case and it seems that the poor battery life started at the same time. Has anyone else noticed this too? I called visor tech support and of course they blame "3rd party software". I have gone back to the original slip case and I'll see if this increases my battery life.
Tech support recommended removing "ALL" 3rd party software to see if this helps and then if it does to "slowly" re-introduce the 3rd party software.....
Any other ideas, thoughts, help appreciated.

If your using a leather cover, beware. The leather molecules will become electrically charged with the friction of removing and replacing the visor unit. Alkaline batteries will be drained very quickly. You may notice a bright green oooze coming from the Leather pouch as well.
Just kidding, but you must be kidding as well. A case causing battery drain.

I had gotten a matching Visor case and was very careful with it, as I had read about problems with the top of the Visor cracking by the Springboard slot. It didn't matter, my Visor has a small chip out of it. I called Customer Service to get a replacement Visor and return the case. I decided to keep my Visor because the replacement one was flickering. So I sent back the replacement and the case. They promptly refunded my credit card for the case. They gave me no problems at all. I now own a Fossil case which I love.
g2, I hope you were kidding when you suggested that your case was draining the batteries.

I can't speak to the Handspring cases as I don't have one, but I did consider it seriously before getting my EB Slipper.
I didn't get the Handspring because of my concern with how it was held in with the plastic clip.
I love the EB Slipper - no problem holding the visor in it, it looks good, and it's very functional.

I hope your not speaking TO your handspring case. If you're not nice, they have been know to drain the batteries (:
Come on guys, I REALIZE the leather isn't draining the batteries!!!!!!!!
I thought maybe the cover when closed was maybe hitting the buttons and turning the unit on and off. I've pushed on the top cover to see if I could get the unit to turn on but it doesn't seem too!!!???...
I guess after reading others comments regarding battery life, maybe mine isn't all that different. I was just under the impression that 1-2 months could be expected. From what I've read, most users are only getting 2-3 weeks at best.
On well, still beats my WinCE (I can use that term here!!!!!) unit would go dead after 4-8 hours!!!!!!!!
What is the EB Slipper? Post a URL please.
Thanks Greg
G2 - there is a VisorCentral review of the E&B Slipper case at

I like my RhinoSkin Rhino Pak 1000 case. I got it from PalmGear when I had my Palm III, and used it with my Palm V. Had to put some bubble wrap below the Palm V to hold it in there. But since the Visor is similar in size to the Palm III case, it fits rather well.
The elastic isn't the best, but it's easy to pull the visor in and out relatively easily. It's slightly padded, and has a zipper around the front, with a small pocket on the inside and one on the outside. It has a belt loop, but I've never used it.
I've just bought a case for my Visor Deluxe at DataVision in NYC. The brand is cdProjects (www.cdprojects.com). It is really great, it has belt clip and it has a hole for the stylus and the PDA fits perfectly. And I only paid $16. You can't beat this price..
