First Purchase Advice
I am wanting to purchase a Handspring Visor. I will be using it to keep score for my daughters' softball teams. I have looked on the turbostats website. They recommend a PDA that has 8 mb, and is Palm OS compatible? Which model would be most practical and economical. I will not be using it for business, etc.
If that's all you plan to use it for, I would recommend a Visor with 2MB (It's simply called "Visor"). 2MB on a PalmOS device holds a lot of information compared to a PC or PocketPC device. If you plan to use it for more, the Visor Deluxe is exactly the same but with the 8MB. I would recommend a good database program such as HanDBase. Search Handago.com and Palmgear.com for other programs.
Just so you know:
The 'Visor' ($50-$75)is discontinued and can no longer be found at ANY retail store. Your only bet is off the internet, usually used. This is not a good deal.
The 'Visor Deluxe' ($100)is discontinued, but you can find it at some retail stores (usually packaged together with a wireless internet module, try CompUSA). This is still a great PDA, and if you want one with a blue case, you can order a factory refurbished (used, sent back, defects fixed) one for $99 at www.handspring.com
The Visor Deluxe is your best deal, probably. If you want to do more with your PDA than a datebook and score keeper, try the
'Visor Neo' ($169)- the same thing as the deluxe, but with a slightly better screen, newer operating system, and shinier case, or the 'Visor Edge' ($199)- the extremely thin version of the Neo.
If you want a color screen, I suggest going with the 'Palm m130' ($279). If you purchase this from www.palm.com, you get some nice software and games included on a memory card for free (the graduation special)
If you are a gadget geek, and want the best possible, go for the Sony T615 ($379) (twice the resolution for pictures, etc.) or the Sony NR70 ($499) or the Sony NR70v ($599, built-in digital camera). The NR series can only be pre-ordered right now, and should be in stores soon. They also have a better resolution than the T615, the ultimite for picture taking.
All of these devices have Palm OS, and are compatible with almost every 'Palm OS' program

If you are using in the outdoors, don't forget a good protective case like the Active Armor case. www.activearmor.com.

If you decide to go with a color device and plan to use it outside (you mentioned softball stats), make sure it has a reflective or transreflective screen. These screens do not get washed out in sunlight.
PalmOS devices with screens that are viewable outdoors:
Palm m505
Palm m515
Sony Clie T615c
Sony Clie NR70 and NR70v
PalmOS devices with screens that are not viewable outdoors:
Handspring Visor Prism
Palm IIIc
Palm m130
I didn't mention the Samsung I300 because I don't know what type of screen it uses and I don't think that 07mom09 would consider purchasing it.
