-- Amazon ranks Visor 4th top selling item in electronics! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=1366)

Thumbs up

Well, the Visor is off to a good start at Amazon.com. In the 'electronics' store, the Visor is listed as the 4th top selling item as of today. It would be interesting to know how that ranking translates in sale numbers.

I hate to sound negative about this agreement between and Handspring and Amazon, but I really don't see how this deal will yield high ranking sales for Handspring. Distribution really isn't a major problem for HS right now considering they are available at every major consumer electronics retailer. And it's in the brick and mortar channel that consumers will make the side by side comparison of the Visor to other offerings. And lets face it, Amazon.com isn't exactly known as the place for handhelds and PDAs.

I will be much more interested in seeing when, and if, Buy.com will be selling the Visor at or below cost , as they once did with Palm products. That is, until Palm began fixing prices among retailers! Remember the days when you could buy a Palm from Buy.com for about $75-$100 less than the retail price? Well those days are long gone now!

Who knows? Even though Visors are available in stores, maybe Amazon will reach someone who wasn't really looking for PDA's in the first place... [I doubt it, but you never know...]

I work with computers, and I probably still wouldn't have one now if several of my co-workers hadn't already bought Visors and/or Palms. Even now, people (outside work) are always asking me, "What's that?" and "What does it do?" Then they kind of nod their heads, and give me that "Ohhh, she's one of *those*" (a geek) look. (Even my own family...)

#2 Already? Impressive. I guess Handspring.com will transform into brochureware.

Remember that Amazon ships EVERYWHERE! Folks like me in Canada can now order Visors and accessories without jumping through hoops.

Wanna save 5 bucks on a Visor? Get the free $5 gift certificate from http://www.webcertificate.com/webcert/ and use it for a visor at Amazon.com! Hey- that's around the cost of shipping!

One thing to remember is each color is viewed as a seperate product. So maybe if all the colors where considered the same product it could be at #1 easily.

I was in a Staples store today in upstate New York. The sales rep told me that the Visors were selling fantastically. He said that they were outselling the Palms by a wide margin and that they kept running out of stock on them. It will be interesting to see if they can maintain this momentum.

I just bought a visor thru Amazon, it hasn't even arrived yet. I bought it there strictly because i could donate a % of the cost to greatergood.com, neither Handspring or the local merchants gave this option. I was buying anyway, so why not?
