Cool

I've managed to put my GoType for the Visor series and modify it to work with my Prism. I prefer the GoType because I can use it in my lap on car rides (where I am the passenger mind you!) and it doubles as a sync cradle.

What I would like to do is further modify the cradle to recharge my Prism as well. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about this?

Thanks,
Kamalot

I used the brute force approach and just ran a couple medium guage wires into the cutout that I made for the Prism. Here's a picture ...

You need to use relatively heavy wire (since it could be carrying up to 2A of current) so I ruled out running it through the hinges the way the tiny little signal wires do. You want to connect +V to the second contact from the left and GND to the fourth contact from the right. Connect the other end of the wires to a socket that matches the Handspring DC power supply and you're good to go!

DK, did you read another thread started by a Stowaway user who wants to do the same? Think your "muscled" approach is "doable" for the Stowaway?

Power Supply

I went to my local radio shack in order to pick up a compatiable power supply for the Prism. They told me that one isn't available. Now, I'm not looking to build my own. Where can I find one?

Wink

BTW Kessler,

Your GoType mod looks just like mine.

I've never looked that closely at the Stowaway's docking connector but the big concern would be what happens to the charging wires as everything gets all folded up. Keep in mind that wires that can carry 2A are relatively big and stiff. It may be possible to notch the casing such that there is a place to route the charging "pigtail" when the keyboard it folded, but I can't say for sure since I don't have one to play with.

That's odd. A quick look at the Radio Shack catalog says that #273-1675 and #273-1695 should work (both are available in retail stores). All you need is between 5 and 6 volts at 2000mA. I don't know if plugs are available to be able to plug these into the connector for the standard docking cradle, but there are ways around that

Question Details

Hey Kessler, Kopsis, anybody else...

I'm in the same dilemma. I've got a GoType and a Prism. I really don't want to lay out $100 for the Stowaway (and I like the GoType).

Can you give me some more details about how you disassembled and cut the GoType?

Thanks!

Why would you need a new power supply?? Just use the one that came with the Prism! I think what youre looking for is a matching DC connector jack to the Prism's DC connector. This seems hard to find (I think it is a 1.1/3.5mm), so I posted a work-around. Maybe check that one out: http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...;threadid=10925

Well,
The main reason I want another power supply is because I keep my cradle at work. I would like an additional power supply to recharge my Prism on long weekends, holidays and trips.
