Let's say I have a Deluxe with a good screen and a Plat with a busted one...

can I swap the screen from the Dlx over to the Plat? or were there other hardware differences?

I was on my way out of the US and broke my Visor Pro screen the day before. No time to get it replaced, so I decided to try swapping it with my old visor (2 MB model, not Deluxe) and it worked fine.

I do believe it voids your warranty, though, if that's a concern.
