I dunno what happened. All I know is that the batteries must have died, and so the contents of my Visor somehow partially erased, cuz when i put fresh batteries in, none of my databases were there (like addresses, to do, etc) but some programs were there (epocrates, Launch Em, etc)

No sweat I said. I sync at work. Nothing. Not even an address. I sync to my laptop. The address and databases come back (to do's, etc) nothing. Then I sync to computer #1 at home. THe visual look is sorta wrong... I had around 8 tabs on my Launch em, but non of them came back. Plus i was missnig programs still. I have one computer left. Once that's gone, its all gone. No more saved preferences, no more files, etc. What should i check for?

When i did the second and third syncs, I went to the hot sync manager and made sure the puter overwrote the handheld (didnt want one computers mistakes to be spread to another machine).

should i just try one more time? Is this what backup buddy is for ? oh Im so confused!

No real suggestions on a fix. However, once you get the Visor back the way you want it, spend the $40 and buy the backup module. It is SWEET!!!!

For peace of mind, get a backup module AND backup buddy.

If you had backup buddy, I would've suggested doing a hard reset on the device, and THEN syncing it. At that point, backup buddy would've realized it's a fresh unit, and would've started moving all your stuff back to it.

BackupBuddy has saved me on a number of occasions.

And on a related note, some testing I did recently. I put some fresh batteries in my Visor, and left them in there for a day. Didn't use it at all. Upon removing the fresh batteries, I could re-insert them up to 15 minutes later and still have all my stuff there. I'm guessing the residual charge on the board is a exponental function of battery strength. I was quite impressed at 15 minutes!

Yes, get the backup module AND Backup Buddy.

As for the memory after the batteries have been removed - on mine it sometimes will last less than 2 minutes, if the batteries have not been installed for very long before removing them.

nothing and i mean nothing works better than the backup module... saved my but multiple times and can be carried with you! best money eer spent next to the visor itself!

so, without backup buddy, should i do a hard reset on the machine? and then sync? or should i sync like i always sync?

what does the hotsync backup anyways??

i lost about 2MB worth of info. All but 1 hack was erased (the friggin Trek sounds hack. i dont even use it!) Sigh... This is a major pain.

any help would be appreciated (re: whether i should hard reset or not before i sync)

and one more thing. what is the difference between the backup module and the backup buddy?

do i need both for FULL reinstallation of my stuff if this should happen again? or is just one hardware and one software?

I don't know why you would need both Backup Buddy and the backup module. I use my backup module once a day to make a backup....why would I want to wait the extra time during a sync to use BackupBuddy also? Seems kinda pointless.....

Having both is definitely useful. Normally, I keep an 8MB flash memory module in my Visor since I have a compulsion to carry around a lot of data useful to me in my job. <g>

When I use BackupBuddy, the data that I have in that flash module gets backed up, which is useful as I move additional data into the module. If I ever lose the module or the Visor (or both since the module is plugged into the Visor 99.5% of the time), I'll have a backup of that data on a PC.

From time to time, I'll travel and won't have access to a PC to do a hotsync (i.e., backup my data). At these times it is useful to carry the backup module with me so that I can make a backup of the data in the main memory of the Visor, which is likely to change every day.

Having both provides flexibility. And the additional kicker is this: I sure can't back up the data in my flash memory module into the backup module.... only one Springboard slot! <g>

If you have a Deluxe Visor, and more than 4mb of stuff to backup, it takes FOREVER (15 minutes?), not to mention consuming batteries at a faster rate. It's obviously linear - the more you have on your Visor, the longer it'll take to backup to the backup module.

I recommend Backup Buddy for hotsyncs. And backup only the databases you use on a regular basis at regular intervals to the backup module. Ie, make the backup module incremental, rather than full.

I do save time with Backup Buddy by *not* backing up my mail database and AvantGo's database. Those are easily recreateable from the conduits.
