One More Very Strong NO Vote

Like so many others I find $300 not only hard to swallow, but impossible!! Hopefully a successful company like Card Access will give us not only a wireless version but also a wired one for � this price.

By selling a wireless springboard at that price they are definitely creating a market for a less expensive wired springboard. Too bad they dropped that product.

Oh wait. Now there WILL be market demand for the wired springboard. I get it. IT'S MARKETING!!

Xircom seems to be committing ritual suicide on their springport line. First the Springport Modem's reliability problems and size, then dropping the wired ethernet, and finally this?

I may see if work will fork over the $$$, but damn...

As I ponder this I'm thinking that Intel may be purposely trying to kill the xircom<->springboard connection since they bought xircom.....They wouldn't do that. Would they???? Oh I must be wrong!

$300 bucks is way out of line. I never had high hopes for this module though. First off it's a brick. Is there a reason that this thing has to be so big? Does it really sink that much juice to require it's own power pack? I question this because they did the same thing for their modem module. Other vendors have gotten around this rather easily. The idea of having your Visor as a wireless access point to your home network opens up a lot of possibilities for home automation, but if this thing costs this much and is this big, I see some major hurdles here.

At $300 I'd rather enter the 1s and 0s by hand.

Not only no, but Hell No. By the time you purchase this module, the Visor, and the keyboard, you'll get to the point where you're wondering why you didn't just go with the laptop.

This price will only attract those with money to burn, not anybody who is interested in a fairly priced useable wireless palm.

I can not belive that they are thinking of sending this modual at this price, it is a sure fire way to make sure it doesn't sell. If it was around 150$ i would buy it in a heart beat. I also want to see a wired ethernet modual I am saving up for a wireless access point but its a nice piece of change. until then i want to be able to connect my prism to my network anyway. I would think that a wired version would be a natural first step before the ventured into 802.11b. But i guess that would just make to much sence.

Seems the better idea is allow for PCMCIA card to slip into an adapter for the Visor. Could open other cards in the Visor without buying expensive modules. The Ipaq current has sleeve that will allow for two PCMCIA. Pricey PDA, they come down in price watch out PALM OSes!

Well, I was considering a Handspring PDA for this reason (802.11) alone, but finally decided to to order a HandEra 330. HandEra has released their CF wired Ethernet drivers for both the 330 and TRGPro, and there will be 802.11 CF cards soon (which I'm hoping HandEra will support).

I know people in this forum won't like to hear this, but Handspring has really blown it with the Springboard concept (as the recent Where are the "Killer" Modules? article also put it). Their only success has been in making cheap, attractive (looks-wise) PalmOS compatibles. I give them a lot of credit for that, but when it comes to expansion and upgrades, the lack of flash for OS upgrades and the lackluster (and also expensive) Springboard options has put me in the no-sale category.

$299, eh?

For that it should also include the PCI 802.11b adapter for your PC, a jack for 10baseT ethernet WIRED cable (easy, since it already speakes ethernet), a free-for-life DSL or cablemodem install and network access account, and a lifetime supply of eyedrops for those weary red eyes we'll get searching the internet on our Visor screens.

Better yet, sell me all the above for $99. I'd buy two! I promise!
