-- soft screen (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=617)
So whats the deal with this soft screen business that seems to plague at least some visor/palm units? I recieved a BVD last week and the membrane that covers the screen seems a bit loose, indents when touched. I know this isn't unique to Visor, as I took a look at a number of palm units at a local office depot. Some had screens like smooth glass, others were even more mushy than my Visor. The blue part of the case seems to have a tiny amount of give when squeezed, perhaps this is where the slack is coming from, is this normal? Is this a semi-defective unit, or par for the course? Have a write right on the screen, no real difference, any suggestions other than live with it or try to wade through tech support/customer service nonsense? Other than the fact the cover and stylus suck, everything else seems to work fine.
I have the same problem with mine (Black Visor Dlx) - you said the screen covers don't make it worse either? I was thinking about getting some of those to protect my screen.
The screen protectors do seem to cut glare a bit and I definately feel better about having one on there after hearing that many people end up scratching the screen up. They don't seem to make any difference in the soft feel though.
I am so pissed off! My bvd came in at 27 days, not bad but I had changed my order to ice after seeing the a blue visor. I hate the blue color just like I thought I would! The screen is soft and I have scratches already. I'll try the protective screens and get used to this crappy color.

P.S. BTW, I just read that Outpost.com has FREE shipping on ALL their products...no, I don't work for them, but I couldn't keep such a good deal to myself!
This "soft screen" phenomena you are all describing is nothing to worry about, at least in my experience. I had a Palm V which I recently traded in for a Vx (after cancelling my Visor order - another story), and the screen on my V was of the "soft" variety. After 6 months of hard usage and no form of screen protection (i.e. WriteRights), I had no scratches whatsoever. Admittedly, I did clean the screen regularly with a cotton cloth and diluted Windex.
What this comes down to is that there are certain acceptable "tolerences" in the manufacturing process. Akin to the backlight issue (some are bright, some are not), the chances of getting a hard or soft screen are about 50/50. All Palm devices, be they Visors, V's or III's use a plastic membrane over glass. Some are just seated more firmly.
If you receive a Visor with a "soft" screen, my advice is to count yourself lucky you got one at all. In the long run, it won't make a difference.
Who was it that said, "In the long run, we'll all be dead"? Some economist, I think.
