Hey,
Just wondering how many people there are out ther that use their Visor to take notes or write down homework for High School. I tried to use mine, but the school said they would take it aweay, so I want to know what has happened to other people. Please include if you are in a Private School as this may have something to do with it. (I go to a public school)

I also go to a public school in mass., my teachers have never taken it away from me and i do take notes with it in science and occasionally English. Some subjects are just easier to use paper with. I write my assignments from all of my classes in it. When i first purchased, my teachers were not sure what it was and told me to put it away. But i explained. On occasion i am asked to put it away or use paper, but it was never threatened that it would be taken away. I am not allowed to use the calc. in math on exams but that is valid because there are others in my class with palm pilots(i have a visor of course). Do your teachers know what it is?

I use my palmpilot and visor in a private school.The teachers used to not care but that was when i was the only kid with one,Now 6 others in my class alone have(I am in 8th grade).The palmpilots/visors where banned for about 2 weeks but then yesterday the school said if you and your parents sign a contract that says no games or anything is on the palmpilot/visor thne you may bring it back...But if you go against the contract the school has the right to take it away until june 22 2000

I am an 8th grader and i go to Kutztown Area Junior High School (public) and the teachers really do not care, well they don't even know that i have it..coz' it is so small and fits in my pocket. I use it for Spanish and other subjects and the only person in my school who has a visor/palm is the principal, He thinks it is cool that i have one, Other people in school want to get one, to play games and such, but i use it for taking down assigments and school related stuff. And on the downside, People make fun of me for the color of the visor (Green). But not a lot. I put a lot of the stuff we are reading in english on there and i have all the documents that we are studying in History. So i am all set. I really love my visor and would not give it up for anything.

I suspected that the Visor (ok, even the Palm) would be beneficial to students if used properly (no games... sorry kids). It's too bad that some teachers and administrators can't see past the "game" aspect of these devices. I asked around town here where I live and so far they aren't allowing PDA's at all... even in the High School.

Technology is a wonderful thing... I wish I had one of these back in my high school days. No, I ain't tellin' you my age but it's safe to say I could probably be your father...

I use mine at High School, its a little too awkward to take down notes quickly but I use it a lot to write down assignments or take down quick notes of vocab words for the week. I've also found it usefull for English, where we're studying Julius Caeser. I downloaded plot summaries of all the scenes that help me understand what the heck they're saying.

I think my science teacher might have once said that I shouldn't have it in school? I wasn't really paying attention and I think he was talkign to some girl with a CD player. He hasn't said anything in the past 2 weeks. Most teachers think its cool, if they care at all. Why must they put fingerprints all over the screen?!?!

One person who I don't know personally has one (Palm III), and a guy in my Cisco class has a DaVinnci, but I'm thje only one with a Visor.

I use my OVD in public high school all the time. I use it every day to write things down and maybe play a game. The teachers never seemed to care. If they see the stylus moving, they may thing its a pen. If you get a case for it like a franklin planner, no one would really notice it. I play IR pong two players with someone who has a PalmIIIx...its fun.

I wouldn't want to have it taken away just because I had games on it.. I can see if you play them in class, but if you have them on there? I doubt they'd go that far.

I also wish I had this thing in HS/College.. it would have made keeping track of my grades much much easier (Four.Zero) and hell, it would be a pretty neat note card for speeches. I just finished up college last year, so my age isn't too far off

Be happy you/your parents could afford something like this while you're still in school. Back when I was in HS I could have gotten the regular Palm(Pilot?Pro?) for about 350-400 which wasn't really an option. Now 150 for the basic Palm/Visor is an awesome deal and I expect more and more people to convert.

Well i use it a lot in middle school. since they know i'm a bit hyped up on computer stuff. i basically use it to check e-mail, news, and for taking down homework assignments. Not really notes yet, until i get a keyboard. So far i can't live without it

I agree; wish I'd had one in high school! Hubby and I are both in graduate school now, and I work. He has my old IIIx; I have a Visor Deluxe. We both use our PDA's for taking notes in class, church, and work. They help us keep organized.

Typical small-minded bureaucracy--they outlaw what they don't understand!

I'm at a community college now (it's really like an extended hs but you get to choose your schedule, times etc), and I own a Visor. I use four.zero to keep track of my grades, and use Datebook+ (great app), with To Do/Memo Pad to store quiz/test dates, hw, etc..

If I don't have time use graffiti, I use DiddleBug to scribble down anything..

My teachers don't seem to mind too much..

I use my IVDx in high school. I use nosleep software's Due Yesterday as an assignment pad and scribble stuff with either DiddleBug or HandWrite.

My teachers don't really care, but I've only been using it for a couple days so we'll just have to see.

I have a friend with a Palm IIIe and we play IR games and IR chat in our Visual Basic class.

PS I am in a public school.

I go to a private college and my prof's all love it. They wanna know everything I can tell 'em. I usually refer people to VisorCentral.

Anyways, I was writing in my assignments in DateBook+ and my prof's asked if he could show it to the class...I was a proud Papa!

seansean: YOu have VB class in HS? Jesus. I wish. We had friggin Apple IIe's until my senior year. I got to learn awesome Basic, but at lot of good that has done for me

I just found out my old major is starting to phase out Cobol and replace it with Java. I can't wait till all those MIS majors start freaking because they have a real programming class (Most of them couldn't hack Cobol.. anything that's not point and click like windows they're clueless on).

Enough about that.. Just wishing they taught more of the stuff I liked (and was made fun of when I was younger. I find it amusing that my friends tore the living crap out of me because I started using the Internet and Email back in 1990, yet today most of them can't live without surfing or checking their mail.. Perhaps PDAs will be at that point in a year or two.

I go to a public HS and am really into computers. I actually am the one of the 1st to have one at my HS, my friend getting his a day after I recieved mine, during XMAS break, so we both brought them the same day to school. We play IR Pong, I play Vexed, BJ's Black Jack, or about 20 other games. I also take notes (I am very fluent with graffiti), and use Four.Zero to keep track of HW. Well, I am really the only one with a palm device except for my friend, and a teacher who has a DiVinci. The teachers love the thing, and take it away to *hehe* play with it and figure out how I put text in . There was a bit of a debate as the teachers began to discover it's power (using it to quickly find facts I forgot during book reports buy using CSpotRun-> Find in ebook., of course the teacher didn't mind, just shocked). Furthermore, when students started cheating with TI graphing calcs, they wondered what a palm COULD do, even though everyone knew I didn't do anything with it. Well, basically, no one minds, yet, and if they do, I already have clearance from the principal to use the thing freely. With the reaction the students around me have been having, it won't be long before they start poping up all over (we do live in a tech deprived school though, the newest computer we have is a few iMacs, very scarse though, everything else are ancient Mac LC's, so it may take a year or two to catch on).

Yeah VB is pretty cool...
I forgot to mention that I use CSpotRun and get e-books for english class...i'll also use that next year when i take comparative religions as i can load the bible, tao te ching, other religious texts on my IVDx...
Speaking of which...
where do you guys get ebooks? Other than memoware.com...

Well, I'm not really in high school (far from that), but I use mine in graduate school to keep track of my class schedule and activities, etc. The scientific calculator really comes in handy for quick calculations in the laboratory and such, although I still find my old TI-82 useful as the Visor doesn't have the ability to use parenthesis to separate simple calculations in expressions (hint hint),...

I have seen a lot of students with palm pilots, although I am the the only one with a Visor. The chair of my department also recently purchased a Palm III and uses it quite frequently. Now I just want the university to put Bluetooth or wireless transponders around campus so that I can have wireless internet access,... ;-)

you should get pilotplot with the mathlib library. it is a fantastic graphing calculator.
