-- Clarification on the memory thing.... (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=13696)
Okay...the 8/16 MB RAM modules work like the Visor's built-in memory except it cannot write to databases.
Do either compact flash or smartmedia cards have this ability?
What types of programs, files, etc. can be stored on these cards? Are they read/write?
If not, how much memory needs to be available on the Visor? Twice the size of the program, for example?
Thanks
I actually have the 16MB Flash Module and a CF card adapter.
Both Cards keep the databases in your main memory, unless you force the software to actually move the database files too. (Something you don't want to do.)
With the CF card you have to transfer the program on to your Visor's main system before you can use it.
With the 16MB Flash Module, I put almost all my programs on the flash module. As long as the module is plugged in, they work just like they are part of the main memory.
Every program I have, like about 40 games and WordSmith work the same as always. I did notice that Mini-Calc froze when I used the afterburner hack on it but that is the only issue I have seen.
Also, 16MB might not seem like a lot but I have only 10MB of programs and databases between my Prism and the Flash module - I still have 14MB Free! AND that is with keeping every program I can think of.

Can SpaceTrader be run from the flash module? I don't remember seeing a *.pdb file for it.
Yup
I've run Space Trader from HandSpring's 8Mb Flash Module for quite a while with no problems.

Bottom line?
I need some input. I'm trying to decide between MemPlug and a 16 meg RAM module. My main concern is I have large programs (Wordsmith, MiniCalc, ThinkDB, ePocrates, MyBible, SpaceTrader, etc) , smaller games and utilities and many docs. I prefer to not have to keep swapping modules.
Which would be best for my needs?
TIA
16MB Flash Module.
I run the following programs from my Flash Module:
WordSmith
MiniCalc
TextPlus
BugMe!
MedScape
Over 40 color and B/W games (some like Zap 2016 which are huge)
As a result I have almost 5MB free on my visor and 9 free on my Flash Module. Now I just need more games!
I just leave my flash module plugged in all the time.
