-- Fatal exception after hotsync (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10716)

Posted by Trinition on 01-09-2001 05:52 PM:

After I hotsync my Visor Deluxe to my Windows 98SE machine, the Visor's screen says "cleaning up" then I get a "Fatal Exception" and must reset. Nothign appears ine ither log about this, and everything appears to be hotsynced fine.

The last thing I put on my Visor was WordSmith.

Any ideas?

Is it the most recent version of WordSmith? There were some problems while it was still in beta but they've been fixed in the final 1.0 release (at least my errors have gone away).

Fatal exception after HotSynch

1. Delete WordSmith from your PDA.
2. Soft Reset by putting the pin in the hole in the back of the PDA.
3. Check your PC version of WordSmith: It must be v. 1.0, not Beta.
4. Hit Start, hit Search, search for WordSmith.
5. Install entire program.
6. Re-install any Memos or Docs that didn't make it.
7. Call or e-mail Technical Support at Blue Nomad if this doesn't bring happiness.

Still not working

I deleted WordSmith from my Visor Deluxe via the memory app, uninstalled it from my PC (and made SURE the directory was obliterated). I then reset everything and re-installed it. The HotSync is still crashing.

What else can I try? The HotSync log still says everything goes ok.

Fatal exception after HotSynch

Since you have the most advanced PDA with the most advanced Palm OS version, some programs written before these developments are incompatible and cause conflicts.

In this writer's experience, the culprit was a Hack that caused the conflict, so it was deleted, and the Fatal Errors stopped. I reluctantly eliminated HackMaster and all hacks, thinking I could live without them, and did not want to live with any more Fatal Exceptions.

If you have any, try deleting them, and attempting HotSynch again.

One could be scientific and perform a Hot Reset and delete everything. Reinstall the Palm Desktop, Soft Reset, then re-install all your programs one-by-one. HotSynch after each one. If you get a Fatal Error, you know the last thing you installed is the Devil.

Or call Technical Support, asking for the HotSynch Genius.

Trinition... One thing to check and narrow things down a bit.

I had a similar problem. Click on your hotsync icon in the systray, choose custom and see if the Wordsmith conduit still exists. If so, then set it to not sync on your next hotsync. Then try a hotsync. Atleast you can take that out of the equastion. I had a similar problem.

You could also try this with Avantgo too. Good luck!

Didn't work

I tried this before, and I just tried again, but it didn't work. Before, I even tried exlcuding EVERY conduit and it STILL has a fatal exception.
