Keeping my Edge on all the time in the Cradle.

Guys -

How can I keep my Edge on all the time when its in the cradle? My cubie neighbor's Palm V (running 3.5) has an option in the Prefs to keep his on all the time when sitting in the cradle.

When I go into my prefs, that option isn't there.

There is a free program that I use called AlwaysOn. It just gives additional AutoOff options. You launch the APP and hit AlwaysOn and your Edge will not turn off until you hit the power button.

The only downside with this method, is you must remember to turn the PDA off all the time.

I used it on my Prism and loved it. Just remember to set it back to an interval when it is not in the cradle.

Yeah, I've been told of this one before...the point I was trying to get at is why the heck HS didn't leave this feature in OS 3.5 for us?

Or did Palm add this one on after the fact?

Not sure why HS did not include this option. I really liked AlwaysOn, but it is nicer having the option in Prefs. My new CLIE has that option and it is more convenient.

Arrow Tell ME

What is the point of havign this feature? Why would you want your Visor to be on in the cradle?

I turn my CLIE on and bring up BigClock or Matrix. This allows me to see the time from anywhere in the room.

It is just really handy. You can be looking at something and get sidetracked and not worry about the PDA turning off.

I did find AlwaysOn to be more useful on one occasion, when using the Stowaway. Everytime I put my Prism on the Keyboard I made sure it was set to AlwaysOn. I found that to be very nice. I have yet to purchase the Stowaway for my CLIE, so I am not sure if it will stay on while hooked up to it.

Anyone know the answer to that?

The problem with AlwaysOn is that the name says all "Always On". You change the off timer, or keave it always on.

There's a tiny application called "OnCraddleOn". If you turn you Palm/HS on, and it's sitting on the craddle, the off timer will never expire. And you can set this option, and leave it, exactly like the Palm V!

Thanks for the link to "OnCradleOn". We have some Symbol SPT1500 and SPT1700 units here with OS 3.5, and they have that option, which I thought would be very handy with BigClock or Matrix as well (any color Matrix version expected?). I think I am actually going to use PilotWatch. I like the analog clock look.

yardie - the reason I want it is so that I can have the same functionality as the PocketPC's do on their today screen. You can run Whatzup, and always look over and see your task list & upcoming appointments on the screen.

The reason why the Palm V has this option, and why the author of OnCradleOn says "Visor Prism" on his document is that these units recharge while in the cradle. So thers no problem being on all the time, while sitting there.

For the other Palms and Visors and Handeras, beware of battery life!
