As a new Visor user I would like to download an e-book and I was wondering if I need to have any other applications installed in order to view it? Also are there any essential's in general that are needed?
Any suggestions on Modem preferences would be appreciated too!!!!! In fact, any suggestions at all would be appreciated.
Thanks
Vicki
PS I downloaded the holiday calender and it shows up in my datebook in Outlook Express but not on my Visor after HotSync
Backup!!
The most essential of essentials is a Backup Module and/or (preferably and) a program such as Backup Buddy, which is available at www.bluenomad.com
The backup module saved my butt yesterday when I lost a lengthy document from work.

WELCOME!
To read eBooks, you need a converter, and a program to read them. I like TealDoc (www.tealpoint.com) to read, and then to convert you need a convertor. There are many avaliable, I normalyl try to get my eBooks in a pre converted form so.. Just search for Palm DOC convertor
(sorry abotu not beign MUCH help..

but not the apps
Hot Sync does back up your data, but if you have a hard reset, your Visor will look like it did the first time you turned it on until you do the hotsync. Even then, you will only get your addresses/todo's (assuming you customize your next hotsync to have the desktop overwrite the empty handhelds data) I recently picked up a backup module for about 40 bucks - when used, it will return your Visor to the exact state of last backup. Much easier than trying to re-install each program you like to use (ZAP, Datebook 4, Blazer, Map Companion, keyboard, PQA's, BugMe, ect...

Yes, just a plain 'ol sync backs up everything on your Visor. Now that BackUpBuddy has other apps (like the instant classic WordSmith), I don't mind being more vocal about this. A plain 'ol sync just doesn't stick them all in the same folder, so you kind of have to figure out where the data for your app is being backed up. But that's not a Herculean task, or anything.
Another wise thing to do is to keep a full backup of the YOUR_NAME dir, somewhere else on your PC (and even on a CD-RW disk), just in case everything craps out.
As far as an e-book reader or other apps, it sounds like you prob. haven't discovered the PALMGEAR H.Q. site -- almost every Palm OS app ever created.
MEMOWARE.COM has almost all the e-books.
Go to town!
(You can search this site, too, for like "Favorite Apps," etc.)

I agree with Christo. I had to hard-reset my Prism when the screen was dying. I assumed if I did a hotsync, eveything would be back to normal, but that was not the case. Luckily there was a backup, and I was able to reinstall everything, but it was a pain. I think your money is best spent on the backup module.
