-- Marcosoft Handy GPS Going to Ship Soon? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=5135)
Hey, it looks like Marcosoft is taking info if you want to be notified when the GPS is shipping. They added a "Buy Now" button and are taking names and e-mail addresses.

Can't wait for this one!
I thought the built in GPS was the killer app for the Visor. I still think it is, however, I wanted one soon. They are now taking names, but the product won't ship until January/Februrary. This comes after an initial statement of availability in November.
I, to my dismay, am probably going to go with the Garmin III+, which includes some mapping and many features. However, the cost is significantly more ($350). However, if I decide to leave the Visor fold, I can always keep the GPS and use it with a Palm or WinCE device. The one thing that disappoints me is the lack of a serial cable, so I can use GPS software with my Visor.

I wonder when then start providing non-US maps...
Once they deliver european maps they will have at least one extra customer (i.e. ME!) and I think a lot of other europeans will be interested....
I would love one of these just to have it.
I hardly even drive anyplace that needs it but it is cool so that is usually good enough
I probably won't buy this however as from what I read in the past it will not do point-to-point driving instructions. I would rather have something that will tell you when a turn is coming up. Some type of beep or something. This will only display your location on the map. So if you are actually driving you have to always be looking at the thing, not good.
Also they say it uses 2 AAA batteries. I wonder how they fit them in there, must be in that top part that sticks out. I guess any module with it's own power will require a part that stick out the top of the Visor since AAAs wont fit within a module that fits down in the Visor.
Here's a little more info I got from Marcosoft today:

[my question]
>I was wondering if there will be a 'pass-thru' feature available at ship
>time or later for the Quo Vadis springboard. For example, a 'serial'
>cable to attach to the springboard or the Visor which would pass industry
>standard gps info to an external client, such as a notebook.

[Marcosoft's reply]
No, not for the time being. It is intended to work only as a "springboard"
module with a built in Quo Vadis mapping system and basic GPS display
functions on the Visor screen.

Oh well, so much for that 'nifty' feature.
