I canceled my Visor deluxe last week and bought Palm IIIx. Anybody else?

I canceled mine last week too; I'd rather put that money towards a GPS device (one that I'm not worried about dropping or having in the rain). Though, I'll probably end up buying a Visor by the end of the year.

I too have acquiesced and decided to get a IIIx for a total of $142.00 from ValueAmerica. I originally wanted to
get a Visor because my PalmPilot Pro. was old and the Visor was cheap. I thought the SpringBoard would be
cool, but it was mostly the cost. Well, I was basing the cost part on the "Solo" cost, and when I went to order I
got caught up in the desire to get the best long term value and ordered a Blue VD. Since my work and home
machines are NT and 95, I also had to get the serial cradle bringing my total to $270. While this was steep, I
figured it was still cheaper than anything from Palm. When all of the delays happened, it gave me time to consider
other options, and with ValueAmerica's discount I could get a IIIx for less than a stripped down Solo without a
serial cradle... So at this point I canceled my order and I'll wait to see what happens with the Springboard in the
next few months. I'm a technical project manager working on clinician information review for a large healthcare
system, and in that capacity I will be most likely purchasing some Visors with 802.11 springboards (when they
ship) for R&D closer to January. I wish everyone luck with their new purchases, and I will be continuing to
watch this board and the Visor with interest. It all came down to $...

Not me. <shrug> I knew what I was in for when I ordered it. The situation hasn't changed much -- and hands-on reviews have sounded very promising -- so I haven't changed my mind.

I agree Bearpaw. I just called Handspring yesterday, and they finally did find me in their database. So now I know that I have not fallen off the face of the earth.

I don't mind waiting another 2 weeks for a great product like the Visor.

I wanted to hang in there, but I got out while the getting was good.

I have to agree with Bearpaw and Foo Fighter, I was told 4 to 6 weeks for delivery. If it takes that, or close to it, I'll be happy. I admit I was a bit ansy when they didn't confirm my order, but that was a fear of the order taking not of Handsprings ability to deliver a superior product, which from what I've read the Visor will be.

I switched to the Palm IIIX. read thru all these 1,000's of posts and decided I needed a new pda that's here now and works now from a company that's running now. don't blame you if you've got the time and money to spend waiting for visor. but my PDA is for work, not a toy, and for work I need to be serious.

I cancelled the order of my Visor and ordered the Palm IIIx from VA. What a deal!

I toyed with getting a IIIx too. There was really 4 things that held me back:

<LI> 4 MB RAM. I want to put some memory-hogging Bible apps, and I don't want to have to worry about switching things back and forth.

<LI> LCD. The Visor has the same screen as the V, which would be better.

<LI> True USB at 4 times the speed.

<LI> Springboard based backup and whatever else. A quick, safe, easy solution.

I'm not denying, however, that the ordering process has been anything less than rocky. I changed my blue Dlx to graphite a week ago when I heard that blue looked like a "Palmboy". They assured me that it would be changed; today when I called, they still had me down for a blue.

Werker, why do you think the Visor is "a toy" and not "serious" enough to be used as a "work" PDA?

I think he just meant that it's something he needs day-to-day at work, rather than something to goof around with in his spare time. No?

I had never used a handheld before, but the Visor looked like a cool and powerful device. And, having had a friend swear that her Palm IIIe changed her life, I decided I'd try getting a PDA.

I ordered the Visor Deluxe a week ago and then kept checking back with this Web site.

It was then I learned about the possible 6-week shipping time. I had previously figured it would get sent out late October and make it to my door within a couple days of being sent.

Wanting to get into the PDA world, I bought a Palm IIIe and figured I'd get used to it, transfer my data to the Visor when it arrived and then sell the IIIe.

Well, heck! Entering information into that thing is a pain in the ass! I canceled my order with Handspring and am selling my Palm IIIe after just one night of use.

I can see how they would be helpful if you were a big executive with a busy schedule. The alarm function would remind you of all your various appointments and meetings. But I just wanted it to keep track of addresses, to-do lists and memos regarding what books, movies and records I wanted to read, see and buy.

Well, my old system, involving a 1.5 x 2 inch wallet-size datebook (thickness=3 credit cards) and a pencil works much better and faster for me. I don't have to worry about losing data (as long as I don't lose my wallet), and it fits in my wallet.

Sure, it can't control a TV with its infrared port. It can't play games, either. But, the main functions I wanted it for were much better addressed by good old pencil and paper.

I don't know if I'm all that representative of the college- to post-college-aged demographic (to let you know, I'm 23 and work for an e-commerce retailer creating and editing content), but it may bode ill for Handspring that people like me aren't flocking to PDAs. After all, it seems like they're trying to target the regular consumers who heretofore hadn't considered these devices.

I don't know. Just a thought.

Well I am also 23 and I work in the marketing department of a Communications Test Solutions company (we make network troubleshooting hardware and software) and I have been addicted to PDAs for a year and a half. I got my first one after doing a case study on Jeff Hawkins during my senior year of college. I use my upgraded Palm Pilot for everything - notes to myself, adressbook, datebook, games, passwords, to do's...The list goes on. When I bought my pilot, I didnt have a PC, so all my data entry was by hand and by doing that I learned how to input text. It isn't that hard once you get the feel for it and I would say that took me three days. Now I can't wait for my Visor. More memory, more power. PDAs are not for everyone, but I would suggest you give it a little more time before trying to sell off your Palm.

I love the idea of the Visor, but I am leaning towards canceling my order. A few weeks ago Visor was cheaper and had more memory than Palm devices. Now I can get a Palm IIIx for just about half off the Visor ($130 vs $250), sacrificing springboard, usb, and memory. Half off is a lot though!

I'm hangin' for the Visor.. Coudn't pass on the great price on a V at Valueamerica though..picked one up for the wife.

Kebs is wrong...palm sales are on faster growth curve than any other produt in the electronics industry.

So far I'm hanging in there! I have a Zaurus that holds all my info at the moment. The drop in 3x prices to half of the visor will hurt visor though. Still, there is something to be said for the better screen and 2x the memory.

Prices on palms HAVE NOT dropped to half that of the Visor. The posts are in reference to a special deal on one site.(and they are taking a loss on the palm sales)
