Exclamation Freeze after EVERY reset

Hi there. I have owned a Visor Deluxe for about a year and a half now, and was very pleased with it until just a few months ago. It seems that anytime my Visor needs to be reset, whether from an error or not, it will freeze on the Palm Computing logo screen. The only way I can get past this is by utilizing the soft reset while the up button is depressed. However, this disables things such as beaming, and I'm tired of having to use this soft reset every time my Visor crashes or otherwise needs to be restarted. I have tried nearly everything, even to the point where I have used the hard reset (erasing all data), and then re-installed every application one-by-one. Even this hasn't worked, which makes me suspect a bug in the hardware itself. I know that my Visor has a memory issue (I used the HS Updater program and found this), so that may help shed some light on the situation. Any suggestions, comments, or anything would be much appreciated, as I use my Visor for just about everything. Thanks!

Are you using any hacks? If so, that could be your problem, especially if a warm reset (while holding the UP button) works, since that action bypasses the loading of hacks and system extensions. The other culprit could be the Handspring Updater itself, which if I remember correctly, also doesn't load during a warm reset.

No, it does not load, as a Warm Reset is the only way (besides the Hard Reset) that I know of to delete it.

I had the same issue sporadically with my old VDX. I just would Warm reset, disable hacks, soft reset, then ok.

Incidentally, when you do Warm Reset, you should be sure to soft reset right away, I've heard that leaving it in that limbo warm state can make things, well, weird and battery-greedy.

Well, I tried everything both of you have told me, and none of it has worked. I tried a warm reset, disabled my hacks, and a soft reset, but it just froze on startup again, requiring me to do yet another warm reset to get back to my data. Currently, I am only running 4 hacks: Crash, FontHack, MatrixHack, and TrekSoundsHack. The problem has persisted even when the hacks are disabled and/or deleted from the Visor. I have even deleted the HS Update (and made sure that my Palm OS Version reverted to 3.1 and not 3.1H3M), and nothing seems to work. Is there anything else I can try, or should I just start looking into replacing or buying a new one?

Have you tried Hard Resetting, then not adding any programs? If it works with just the factory installed programs, then it's not a hardware issue. Otherwise, you might try to call Handspring, even if your warrenty is up.

Also do you have any modules installed? Pull them out first.

Allrighty. I did a hard reset (for the umpteenth time) and deleted all my apps. The resets now work without freezing, so everything seems to be working. I'm glad it's not a hardware problem (I'm rather low on cash already, I'd hate to have to spend even more to replace the Visor) and now I just have to figure out which program or combination of programs it is that's been causing all this trouble. Thanks a ton for all your help, and if the problems persist or if I have an update on them, I know where to turn.

Chris,

I had this problem with my old VDX... I also had MatrixHack installed (i loved it's cool effects!)... You might want to try leaving that hack out.
