VisorCentral gets a facelift, new features

It is been a little more then two years since VisorCentral first
launched, and today we are proud to introduce the biggest site overhaul to date.

Just a quick reminder/request/suggestion to have the link to the article appear in the form for discussing it...it makes it a LOT easier to reference what the conversation is about :

Thanks!

Will the phase 3 software section include user reviews and product category comparisons? That's what I feel is missing from all of the other Palm Software sites...it'd be great to have a place for unbiased comparison reviews.

Just a thought...

Otherwise, I like the changes.

Wink I like the LOOK

I agree that the site looks alot cleaner. I have not dug around too much yet... I guess that work can take a back seat for sometime

Cool

Marcus,

So far I really like the new look!! The VC staff deserve a resounding WELL DONE!

One feature that I did get used to in the forums and that I seem to be overlooking on the new site is the "Skip to first unread post" (or whatever it actually said) link that used to be in the threads. Is it there and I'm just missing it (if so would you help me out please). If it is not there, are you going to put it back in??? PLEASE!!

Thanks, and I look forward to the next phases!

Craig

The visorcentral icon in the upper left points to the homepage in every case, unless you're in the discussion board, then it points to discussion.visorcentral.com .

Great redesign, I look forward to the new features (esp. since the righthand toolbar is redundant right now!)

Use the box with the Down Arrow in it to take you to first unread post.

Lightbulb First Compliant

OK, I'll be the first to make a compliant: I dislike the fact that the discussion boards are now in a fixed width design. I usally visit using the "View New Posts" feature and drill down the results quickly.

Other than that, nice job guys.

(BTW - Spell check still doesn't work in Mozilla)

For IE users the site is variable in width, and I just activated it for Netscape.

The reason we had it disabled is that NE stretches the blue side borders as the page gets wider, and it looks kind of strange...

Any web developers out there that has a solution to the problem?

Do you mean the little bumps? I didn't notice it until you pointed it out.

I noticed that the side borders use only NBSP in them, try using a small image that is the right width instead, and set the background image for that TD to the same image.

It is a little disorienting at first, but pretty much the same as if you went into a store and they had moved the displays and checkout counter. Give me a couple weeks, and I'll have forgotten what the old site looked like anyway.

Don't design a template dependant on accurate table layouts if you want it to look good in Netscape with variable widths.

That's just the way it is. Thank you Netscape.

Software Archive

"Phase three will see that addition of a co-branded software archive from a major software site."

Sure hope that isn't Palm Gear HQ.

Thanks, Kelley!! I was expecting it to be on the first page of posts as before. I like it even more now that I don't have to open the first page just to get to the newest post.

Thanks, Marcus and team on a great new look!!!

You betcha...

Actually, I just found my only complaint...the "Quote" button has moved from the top of the post to the bottom. I am used to it being at the top and find myself with the wrong post to quote from. Oh well, I'll learn! Otherwise, I like the new look alot.

So THAT'S what those buttons mean. Great!

I also agree with KC in that I got confused when the edit/reply/etc buttons were moved to the bottom of each post...I actually think they make more sense across the top, but maybe that's just me.

I've been visiting forums using vBulletin for a very long time and never knew that, either!
