-- Handy GPS (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10382)
Just received the Handy GPS for Xmas,.....great little gadget! Have read numerous threads on this item from different sites with much of the same retoric,....I have found it to be a challenge to understand, but once the concept sinks in it really is easy and fun to use,.......this is my first GPS so I can't really compare it to anything else. The only experience I have in this area is working on GPS eguipment in aircraft,....and that technology is still rather new!!
The only problem so far is the battery life of my Visor about 3 or 4 hours,..... and on NiMh batteries the usage goes WAY DOWN.
Has anyone solved the battery issue? I'm tired of swapping out NiMh batteries after a couple of minutes so I've gone back to Alkaline.
I'm working on a review of the HandyGPS right now. I set the battery usage to Level one (Preferences | Setup). That seems to give me better life. Check the manual that comes with the HGPS for more details.

Thanks for the info James,....after swithcing to save mode 1 the battery life has jumped up dramaticlly! I've now gone back to NmHi batteries with the same results.
Overall I'm very pleased with this little unit, has worked flawlessly on trips AND can even pick up satelites in my home.
My suggestion for new users would be to use brand new batteries and not use the ones that are supplied (use them for your remote).
Another issue that wasn't apparent to me at first was the inital start up time to lock on sat's every time a fresh set of batteries are installed,....lock on time afterwards is very acceptible (less than 1 minute).
Again thanks for your help!
