-- Multiple Users?? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2890)
Hi all,
I've only had my Visor Dx for about 2 weeks, and love it already. I'm considering the purchase of one or two more for the family.
Can you through the use of profiles have multiple users on one computer with different schedules and contact lists?
I dont think you can, the whole point behind using different profiles was so you could have different schedules and whatnot. Why would you want to have them all on the same user, you can still sync the same programs and you can always beam over whatever information in the addressbook that you need.
I think you said what I was asking, by using different profiles for the same desktop software, can you have different schedules and addressbook listings? I should mention, I went through most of the Visor manual, and help topics online... seems like there is little info on this, including the helpfile with the Palm Desktop software...

Thanks, that is exactly what I wanted to know... after posting, I added another user to the desktop, and saw a fresh datebook, memopad, etc. This is pretty awesome technology, I'm gonna have to share with the family

I'm a little late, but I had myself and my girlfriend on the ONE PC we had at the time, then when I got my brother a Palm for his birthday, I had 3 profiles. So, I don't know the limit, but it's good you found out that you can have numerous people on one PC without interfering with anything.
Now, AvantGo is another story. I have no idea if that is compatible with multiple users.
No problem with synching AvantGo with multiple users. My husband & I use one PC, and we each have different AvantGo contents on our Visors.
likewise, we use 2 visors on one PC with avantgo and vindigo...AND I use Palm Desktop while she uses Outlook.
It's actually pretty neat!
The data for different users are kept in separate subdirectories.
If you use Windows, you should have a directory like c:\palm\<yourusername>. That is where your data and backups are stored.
If you add another user it will create a new subdirectory like c:\palm\<newusername> for the new user.
The first time you HotSync a new device, it will ask you to select or create a user. On subsequent HotSyncs, since each Visor or Palm has its own username, you just drop the unit in the cradle and sync.
