Has anybody done this? Which version of the Palm Desktop should I install? Does it matter (are they the same?)

If you have different user names on each unit, it should work fine. If, however, you have the same user name on each unit, you will need to setup different user profiles on the desktop for each PDA. Check out the FAQ section on syncing. As for the Palm Desktop, I think you need to use the Handspring version... it should work for the Palm as well.
