Smile

Just noticed that Dave Design has a preview of an all aluminum Visor replacement case on display at http://www.dave.com/visor/index.html

Cool! Real Cool!

There's already another thread about this with more info regarding. I believe the thread title is "Check This Out"

Buying this case would mean making a STRONG commitment to staying with the VDX for several more years - which is a little tough for an electronic junkie. I've had mine for 18 months and already I'm getting buggie about the edge, prism, and even the other brands that are coming to market. It's a tough decision...

Wow.

I've been drooling for one of these for quite a while. I wonder if Dave will be making nice T-6 AL covers for them as well? It would be awfully ugly to use one of the original snapcovers on such a nice piece of milling (hint, hint).

Also, is it possible to get it burnished, or otherwise have a custom surface treatment? I've always liked the old car dashes that were steel or al, but were turned with a drill that had a wire brush on it. It would make a nice "retro" look to the case.

Cheers!

That wouldn't exactly work to well, saying that the plastic covers bend pretty well, to allow them to snap on and off. Aluminum in that thickness would not 1) bend at all, 2) if it did, wouldn't spring back. A cool Idea, but theirs a reason why it's plastic.

Not nessecerily true. I don't see why these cases won't be compatible with the next upgrade to the VDX line. First was the Platinum, which still has the same case as the VDX (right?). If worse comes to worse, and Handspring changes case designs, you can still get a Platinum later.

To Miradu 2k

Miradu -

I don't mean make a ALcopy of the horrible snapcover. I was talking about a nice AL cover with a *hinge* on it that fits like any of the current *plastic* hinge covers for the deluxe. I agree that AL would not make a good snapcover due to the bending and metal fatigue issue, but there has to be a way to make a good cover for this new shell.

Cheers!

Is that right?

$250 for just the case or does that include a Deluxe? Maybe I am nuts but to double the cost of my Visor which is already 18 months old, running an older operating system, slower processor, and greyscale screen is insane. Save the money and put it towards a new PDA.

When a slew of new PDAs hit the market by this December and you are sitting with a $500 Visor Deluxe, it's tissue time!!!

Man, at least this is better then the discussions that go on at palmstation.com. People who think that CNC milled billet aluminium cases should be sold for 12$, and type in all caps annoy me...

As much as I cringe at the price tag, all I can say is, if I was rich, I'd buy one in a second. as it is, I work at a freaking coffee bar.

heck, replace 'if I was rich' with 'if I was making even slightly more than minimum wage'.

Read the review of the Palm IIIC replacement case from Dave at The Gadgeteer. This should give an idea of what you willget and how it will work.
