For those of you who have noticed a disturbing drag or crunching effect when writing on the notepad or screen with your stylus, I have a tip to help improve the situation. When I first noticed the problem, I took a moist paper towel and cleaned the screen thoroughly. This had the effect of making the screen much smoother and easier to write on. The dragging characteristic did not go away completely, but did improve dramatically.

I had the same problem, and it was due to "stuff" on the screen (dirt, or whatever.) If you find this I'd advise you to clean it off (with some windex or water, altho make sure never to spray directly on to the screen as it can drip into the visor and damage the electronics.) Dragging around stuff with your stylus is a great way to make scratches. (trust me )

I also have a mild case of the crunchies, but I don't think it will go away with cleaning. The screen looked and felt "perfectly" smooth. (The crunch didn't bother me that much.) After I put on a WriteRight screen protector, I could still feel the crunchiness, but it was muted. So I think it's under the screen--maybe from the membrane between the glass and plastic. I'm not saying that cleaning won't help at all, but I think the real problem is deeper.

I noticed what you're describing and using a WriteRight completely solved all the screen problems I had.

This is my first PDA (I had a Palm III for about a week) and the screen "scratching" or "crunching" was really worrying me. I immediately ordered some WriteRights, not only for this but for my general peace of mind, and it feels much better now. There's a coarse feeling when writing on the screen that feels much more like paper and I have the assurance that I'm not doing my screen any actual damage. I love these things. Definitely worth the $$$.
