Just came across this on the Handspring website in the Developer section.

Q. Can the module wake up Visor w/o turning on the LCD?

A. There is a way to turn on the unit without powering the LCD, which will reduce power con-sumption by over 60%. The function call is in the Springboard API document.

This will be very useful for a pager springboard or others along those lines that need to always be on but not having to keep the Visor always on. There are quite a few other interesting Q & A's on the site as well.
