Now that block has released the programming
info for the Eyemodule, I've finally been able to finish a perl script to extract images from the .pdb files. So far, it's only
been tested under FreeBSD - anyone interested
in helping me test it? It can be had at:

These photos haven't been touched up or anything? If so, I'm impressed, they look much better than any EyeModule shots I've seen that haven't been postprocessed... possibly IDEO's conversion software is less than optimal?

I don't know, the pictures look pretty much par for the course with what I've seen--especially since the pictures are lighted well and at a good distance.

The grayscale one looks better, but that's because the grayscale pictures are usually just saved as 16 greys for viewing on the visor, instead of the 256, which you can extract from the color info.

The grayscale image image wasn't interpolated from the color image by me . When a color image is taken with the eyemodule, both a color (24-bit UYVY image, ~150k) and greyscale (4-bit, ~37k) record are stored in the image database. I extract both.

The grayscale image shown is 8bit/pixel, but
there is only 4bits/pixel of information. Each pixel is doubled to allow easy conversion. Any additional levels of gray
are merely a side-effect of converting from bitmap to jpeg.
