-- Rhinoskin vs. Rhodiana Case (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=3761)
I'm looking for a new case to replace the annoying leather slipcase and plastic shield that come with the visor. I plan on keeping my visor in my jeans pocket or coat pocket (not interested in a belt clip) . Therefore I am looking for a small protective case that will allow me to get rid of the stupid shield.
I am looking at the Rhinoskin and the Rhodiana cases. Anyone have any suggestions which one I should get?
jdogg,
If you want to put it in your pocket, you'd be much happier with the Rhodiana. The Rhinoskin isn't that much bigger but it's boxier so it wouldn't fit into pockets as easily as the Rhodiana. I ordered both so that I could compare them side to side. My opinion is that while the Rhinoskin offers decent protection, it is overpriced and cheaply constructed. It's larger than it needs to be, partly because there's room for the Visor to move side to side in the case. The Rhodiana seems to be designed specifically fit the visor (including a side IR cutout) and I've been happy with the level of protection it provides. On the other hand, reaching the stylus and the on/off button can be difficult since the case fits so tightly around the Visor.
I recommend the Rhodiana.
Great protection, quality workmanship, doesn't add much to the size of the unit.
I never had trouble taking out the stylus, but then again, I have a large thumb-nail.
I like the Rhodiana better without the belt clip. The belt clip attachment on the back of the case digs into one's hand when using the back-straps to attach the case to one's palm.
I'd spend the extra $2 and get the lexan insert if I were you.
I also recommend the Rhodiana. I've been very pleased with it. However, I like the belt clip!
I received my rhodiana case today. I am very pleased with the size but I am concerned about protection for the screen because the cover pushes in easily and contacts the screen. I bought the lexan insert but I am still concerned. I was wondering if anyone knows if the case is safe and offers good screen protection. Also I was wondering if anyone knows of some mechanism to increase the screen protection.
Thanks for all your help.
Love the Rhinoskin Cockpit...not the slider...and yes it does fit. I bit tight at first...but just a slight bend (.5mm) with the old pliers and viola! Plus...there's space to the left of the Visor to drop in the PDA Panache stylus which does not fit very well in the Visor 'cause it sticks out TOO FAR! Very protective...and you don't have to worry about the Visor falling out like you do with the slider. Had a slider and a cockpit...sent the slider back....

Hey, i'm gonna revive this because i have the same question, with one added twist. IM CLUMSY. how well does the rhodiana protect? I'm predicting dropping my visor from waist height a time or two, just because i'm so clumsy. thanks, i know i already posted this on a nother topic.. but if someone could help, i'm be happy
PaQmanN-
I can attest to the protection that the Rhodiana case offers. I have dropped my visor a number of times from about desk high and I have had no ill effects to the visor. I wouldn't recomend droping it on purpose but I think that the case will offer decent protection for a short fall. The only way I can see damage happening is if the visor falls directly on a corner because the corners are slightly exposed and have no protection on them. (Luckily this has not happened to me yet)
