The interview has been up since about 3:00AM and no one seems to be making comments.

He states that the Visor is one of FOUR products in development and that the Visor will be shipping "really really shortlly".

What are your thoughts?

I think some of us will be receiving our Visors today or tomorrow. I also think better products are coming from HS. It is stunning to see how many companies already have springboards ready for the Visor. People were complaining there were not enough yet. On the contrary, but to HS's credit, they kept most of this stuff under wraps...they kept the guessing factor on "high."

Personally, I think this is too cool. I like the interview by Marcus and though it was short, Mr. Hawkins put out some great information. I like the answers regarding the stylus, the flash (which matters not to me) and the future.

One last thing: Marcus, thanks for quoting me, that was way cool, too.

I think they airbrushed Hawking's eyes to match his shirt.

The interview was interesting, however there wasn't anything too amazing. I would have liked to hear more about the trade offs (like Flash or no Flash). It seems like the Palm marketers have been doing there job identifing us all for new products.

Honestly, I was a leeeetle bit disappointed with the interview (after eagerly anticipating reading it), it must have been a pretty brief exchange. Padding out the responses with the interviewer's comments is, well, not very professional-looking.

HOWEVER, there are some wonderful tidbits of information there, including the fact that not including flash ROM was a cost tradeoff. Not surprising when you think of it. I was very interested to learn about their research that shows only 50% of Palm owners have figured out how to download software...and only 5% have ever updated their OS. Kinda goes to show you where our concern about "How can we upgrade?" belongs in the big scheme of things.

I for one am very happy that the Visor is a "mid to low end market" product (little as I like to think of myself as a mid to low end user...though I have to admit I really am!) This is what the Palm OS needs to break out beyond the corporate/early adopter market and really gain widespread acceptance and use.

At almost 5 million served, I would say the Palm OS has broken out of the corporate/ early adopter stage. Although, I do agree with you this will only lead to more growth for the OS and handheld devices.

Hopefully, it will enter the GameBoy level of consumer acceptance.

I would just like to see Microsoft fail.

I'm surprised they don't cry their "Well we're not the leader so you should make it open source!" BS they're trying to pull with AOL. I'd like to see MS crash and burn so they realize that it doesn't take a gig of ram and a gigahertz processor to run a fabulous operating system. Maybe they'll learn something.

I think Solo raised an interesting point. It does seem that a number of springboards are already in development and probably have been for some time.

Perhaps many of these will be available in time for the official Visor rollout in early 2000.
